So Fakhir Brown is going to hold out.......... now think back to our 2nd round draft choice........ and then think about how our FS really would rather play CB than safety.........
I had said this a couple times in some threads right after the draft. I think that Dwight Smith could be an option at CB and Josh Bullocks could move in and start at FS if something happened to one of our cornerbacks. I was thinking that that "something" would be an injury, but I guess a holdout could lose Fakhir Brown his job. What does everybody else think about a possible Dwight Smith to CB and Bullocks to FS???? P.S.- Fakhir Brown is a freakin retard. He's played like 10 games, and nobody outside of New Orleans has ever heard of this guy. Honestly, if you're going to hold out, I think you should at least deserve what you're holding out for. This guy needs to shut up and be the #2 cornerback that he is. |

... he's just doing what it seems everyone does in the NFL...
look at it this way: you'll think Mickey Loomis is an idiot, right? Well, if your boss were an idiot, wouldn't you do the same thing? |

Do people understand that holding out is simply a negotiating tactic and a way to get attention?
You all act like Brown is holding out AND asking for top 5 money or something. Devery Henderson held out last season to get an extra $10,000. The guy was getting a multi-million contract and he held out for $10,000.... and he didn't see the field. Brown wants a new contract. Maybe he's asked the Saints and they haven't listened? Who knows? I know I don't, and I doubt anyone else here does. What is the Saints have been promising to rework his deal for two years and haven't? Cut the guy some slack - he hasn't shown up to workout sessions. If he misses training camp, then we can start to get frustrated, huh? |

Well he does make league minimum. He'll go back to camp soon and then they'll work a deal.
I'd make it with heavy incentives so that if he does play well he gets compensated accordingly. He's just making a statement right now. "Hey, don't forget me over here. I'm starting in front of your multi-million dollar dime back" No biggie, YET. |

Good point, Danno - I hadn't thought of that. Fred Thomas, Ashley Ambrose, and Jason Craft all made more money than he did last season. No wonder he wants more money.

Wow, sounds like the same things I said when everyone was worried about McKenzie not being at some camps. I doubt Fakhir carries this into mandatory camps.

Brown is entering the final year of a two-year deal he signed last spring. He is scheduled to earn a $540,000 base salary this season. When Brown signed the deal, he was a reserve behind starters CB Ashley Ambrose and CB Fred Thomas. But he played his way into the lineup and is now the starter opposite CB Mike McKenzie. Brown, however, is not considered a top priority of Loomis and senior football administrator Russ Ball. The duo also is trying to work out long-term deals for RB Deuce McAllister, C LeCharles Bentley and perhaps CB Mike McKenzie.
That's how much he is making... I'd boost it up to around $800k- 850k range. I mean it's only been one season... if he can do it again then he should get a contract extension at the end of this season if he performs well. I doubt it though because I have a strong feeling we are going to draft a high round corner next year. Only way I think he comes back is if we do something with Thomas' contract... You never know Thomas might regain his starting job this year and Brown would be our nickel/dime back again. |
