New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said on the Dan Patrick Show Monday morning that had their 2017 first-round pick, cornerback Marshon Lattimore, been off the board by the 11th pick, the Saints would have drafted quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

I missed that, but how serious was that response on the Dan Patrick Show? This was pre-draft 2018 when this interview occurred. They wanted everyone to think they were "still" shopping for a QB. You know that you can never believe ANYTHING a team says prior to a draft. Payton knew those rumors from the 2017 draft were still out there. Why not use them to your advantage.

I had to look it up. I couldn’t remember if there was any corroboration from anyone in the organization on Ryan Palmer’s anecdote. It very well could have been an attempt to stoke the flames of the Lamar Jackson to the Saints rumors.
