If you haven’t noticed

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Drew is quite mobile. He doesn't just sit back in the pocket. He doesn't run as much as some others, but there's a reason he'll still be playing into his 40's. Also, very few running QB's have won a Superbowl. ...

Russell Wilson and who else? Maybe Rodgers?

Dak and Russell Wilson may have run yesterday, but when the Seahawks won the SB, he was more effective as a pocket passer. Same goes for Rodgers. I don't think Dak will win a SuperBowl, he's more of a game manager with a good offensive line. The Saints and other teams started picking off the best members of the Seahawks o-line, and yes Russell Wilson now has to run. Cowboys o-line is not as good as it was 2 years ago and Dak runs.

If your QB has to mostly scramble or is in a constantly moving/rolling pocket, you're not going to win a SuperBowl.

Steve Young? He was quite a proficient passer by the 1994 season though.

Its funny you mention Steve Young. His career was shortened by his propensity to run, and the ensuing concussions. Even more interesting, if you look it up on video, you will see his clock being cleaned by Rickey Jackson and Frank Warren.

Exactly, Brees is nimble enough and even has a rare spin move; thought hesistant, he can run...

And Rodgers really isn't so much a runner, but an incredibly nimble scrambler, but has enough to pick up a first down when defenses sell out deep...

Brees' protection is set up like a castle wall with embrasures to sling his pass through, that's why there's an emphasis on the guards...

Running Quarterbacks sell jerseys, quick-read pocket passers with defenses win Championships...

Hi Danno. been too long since I've been here. Good to see your posting.

This didnt take long, and nails it.
Running QB's are great, if you're playing Vanderbilt, in the Energizer Battery Bowl. They'll give you some flash and dash, and make some highlights, in game 3, or the Wild Card Round. They were big heroes in high school or college, but it doesnt play for the duration in the NFL. Case in point. I think you've heard the last of Cam Newton already.

The QB position in the NFL should be a hub for all points on the field, and not just where your feet are. If you do not do this, you may win some games with your feet, but defenses will simply spy you out, eventually, or you'll take a beating and lose a step. You cannot win in the NFL at QB, if you cant read defense, and strike across the field. None of these wishbone guys are going to win the SB.
