Haha we absolutely dont. Sadly the 5’7 label is what will comp him to TLL. I just like the value of what he could bring to an SP offense as say a 6th round pick. Just looking for pass catchers in those later rounds, being that we’re severely lacking draft capital. Jamal Custis, Dillon Mitchell, Keelan Doss, Anthony Ratliff-Williams are some other mid/late guys worth keeping an eye on.

As far as TE’s go. I was extremely low on Kaden Smith, Trevon Wesco and Isaac Nauta before the combine. Wesco is extremely solid at what he is...Blocking TE. Combine didnt change much for him...teams will like him as a blocking TE/FB. Kaden Smith had plenty of separation issues on tape and the 4.92 40 only confirmed that and didnt help his case. Contested catches are nice though. Really thought Nauta would run a little faster but 4.91 was awful from him. Josh Oliver Alize Mack and Caleb Wilson are your move tight end guys but they just dont do much for me when i watch ‘em. Was always left wanting more and dont really “pop” off like you’d like...not really looking to spend The very little draft capital we actually do have on them just to develop in Drew’s final years. That being said...

TJ Hockenson, Noah Fant, Irv Smith Jr are obviously the only 3 you consider making a move up for(of course all gone by 62)

Dawson Knox, Jace Sternberger, Dax Raymond, Foster Moreau, Donald Parham are the Tight Ends id focus on to bring in & develop. 62 is to rich for me and this is why it hurts not having those 3rd/4th round picks :(

Who are yalls favorite pass catchers(WR/TE) in this draft? Doesn’t matter if they’re a premium pick player or sleeper.

Speaking of WR's ...

Anyone had a chance to check out the scouting report on Hakeem Butler? I see Brandon Coleman (6'6 frame) but with really good hands & above average sideline awareness.

I know Sean Payton has gone on record as saying he really likes this year's wide receiver class, so .... It is quite possible a 1st round quality WR could slide to the second round.

Watched plenty of Butler. STUD. No way he falls...that would be a dream though, wouldnt it? Working out with Megatron this draft season was cool to see.

I’m really intrigued by San Diego St. TE Kahale Warring. Tremendously good measurables and raw with tons of potential. Need to watch more tape of him though.

If he can block half as good as Coleman I’m all for it.

Here is a recent clip from Emory Hunt (he post here from time to time).

Chris Lindstrom - BC. High football IQ, good hands. If he slips to round 2, I'd take him at pick #62.

We haven't heard from Em in quite awhile. I'm thinking he got a real gig instead of the self-promotion stuff he was doing at forums all across the web. Real smart guy and it was a brilliant way to get his name out there and fine tune his approach. His Mom still lives in the New Orleans area.

Lindstrom would be my guy. Now that QB "seems" to be on hold, I'm also intrigued by Greg Little from Ole Miss to replace Armstead at LT.

Sadly, he's not falling to us at pick no. 62 and I don't want to see us send that pick and next year's first round pick to get him - if that would even get it done...

He's looking like a pick between No. 20 and No. 30 in the first round...

But we probably will send our 2nd and 1st next year for a TE?

Nope. We'll probably have to trade one or 2 more.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see us go CB with our 2nd round pick. Eli Apple is only under contract through 2020 and PRob will be 32 when the season starts and coming off a broken ankle.

Andy Isabella is ranked from 58 to 68 in best player available it’s a no brainer with him . Hill has to to stay in and just freakin block and it’s fixed.

Now that would surprise me XVI. I could see the Saints coaching staff addressing slot corner back next Free Agency but then again, I didn't see Davenport coming last season . I think Payton really does like what he sees from the 2019 WR/TE class ... so there's that.

To be continued.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft Prospects (NFL Combine)

TE - Kaden Smith ... dude has soft hands, runs decent routes & wins a lot of contested ball matchups. Needs to get stronger/add bulk. He's a day 2 guy, possible 3.

jeanpierre 03-19-2019 10:44 AM

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft Prospects (NFL Combine)

The Draft Network - TE Kaden Smith, Stanford

Route Running -Can be knocked around in tight spaces, is a long strider who doesn't do well when he's forced off his linear release. Best up the seam from slot and in-line when he's not contested, otherwise has some lethargic breaks on hard angles.

Hands -A few gimme drops in contested situations, can let the ball into his chest instead of plucking it while fighting for real estate. Catch radius is notable and when comfortable extending for the football often shows ability to bail out his passer.

Versatility -Exposure to roles of all sorts but ideally is a vertical receiving threat first and foremost. Success hasn't gone hand and hand with assignment and he's not to be featured in a role that asks him to spend time in the backfield.

Contested Catch Ability -Extension skills and size are a true asset, especially when he's boxing out defenders as they arrive. Has less success when the defender rides his hip through the target and is forces to play around a body to secure the catch.

Run After Catch Ability -Long strides in the open will enable some added yardage when he's uncovered but generally lacks wiggle or mobility to shake free of an arriving defender. Play strength isn't exceptional either and won't pull through lateral challenges.

Power At POA -Appears lacking in lower body power and as a result is more of a mirror blocker than a drive blocker. Confident in combo blocks to work hip to hip. Will let his base narrow in one on ones and spin, losing ability to drive opponents off their spot.

Competitive Toughness -High hips lead to some struggles when tasked with playing through contact and can get rattled around trying to push up the seam on a stem. Functional power is not an exceptional trait and offers minimal value in short yardage.

Flexibility -Good rotation through the hips to work his numbers back to the football. Would like to see more hip drop at the top of stem or more aggression at the top of his stems to play with more speed and establish more snap/separation.

Balance -Struggles in an in-line role unless he's tasked with sliding and steering defenders. Has been contacted and knocked off base with his route stems by linebackers and zone defenders looking to reroute his release up the field.

Football Intelligence -Knows all the tricks to work around contact. Awareness to flip his eyes back to the passer are effective, but will do so even at the expense of getting clipped by a squatting defender. Has no issue with assignments, needs to perfect his craft and add functional balance.

BEST TRAIT - Vertical Receiving

WORST TRAIT - Power at POA

BEST FILM - Washington State (2018)

WORST FILM - Notre Dame (2018)

RED FLAGS - None

Kaden Smith is an intriguing TE prospect, but projects as a player that will need added developmental time before any expectations should be placed on him. Smith is pretty lethargic at the top of his stems and won't inspire as a man beater in routes. Pretty specific skill set for immediate role, wins up seam vs. zone and as a sit-down target vs. soft zone. Smith has skills and promise but shouldn't be tasked to play a large percentage of snaps until he fleshes out his game.

One of the first guys I started scouting last fall - Kyle Crabb's scouting on this is pretty accurate - IMO Smith is a Day 3 pick at best...

This is fair criticism however reports like this often may encourage him to get better at his craft - see All Pro George Kittle (5th rounder) from 2018 draft or our very own Jimmy Graham taken in the 3rd.

I'm not saying the Saints need to draft the kid, just saying that in the right system/coaching he could excel at the next level :bng:.

Well, it wasn't directed at you as you are often very informed on draft prospects...

Rather than put my own scouting out there, I shared Kyle's scouting report which is one of the most accurate reports on a player I've seen...

Simply, the problem with Smith is that he gets knocked off his routes, spots and that's a hu-yuge problem in our offense; especially with an older Brees who's got to throw to spots now to grade elite...

There's some serious potential in those Wisconsin offensive line players and two of them would be great value at 62, Edwards, if he fell or Deiter who's slotted there in many mock drafts...

Or we could move back, pick up an add'l draft dart and possibly still take the third Wisconsin guy I also like, Beau Benzschawel...
