Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
JP -
I do recall the conversations you had with Chris, our dear friend Hagin and others on the G position several seasons ago. Specifically Brandon Scherff ... he's battled injuries as of late however he's a BIG NASTY that we obviously NEEDED in the playoffs against the good teams. If SP and co intend to "retool" around Brees in 2020, upgrade the GUARD position this off season. IIRC the Saints were HIGH on Brandon coming out of that 2015 draft class. If they believe this is your guy to get us over the top, spend the money and welcome him to New Orleans. Keep an eye on this player as we enter the off season and into Free Agency. |
Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
G used to be the stoutest position for us on the O line, we could get by with decent T. There are some really good G coming out in this draft. Decently deep. I'm all about the youth movement on both of the front lines. Payton usually drafts good ones but gets a Charlie Brown every now and then. 2nd and 3rd round I pull the trigger. They will still be there.

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
SLB (2) 53 - A.J. Klein, 58 - Stephone Anthony (FA 2019)
MLB (2) 54 - Kiko Alonso (Trade MIA), 51 - Manti Teo (FA 2019) WLB (2) 56 - DeMario Davis, 52 - Craig Robertson (FA 2019) Upgrades needed ^^^ if your name is not DEMARIO DAVIS. Kiko (3rd ACL), Teo (limited/bad in coverage), Craig (nothing but more than depth), Klein (good in nickle packages only), Anzalone (durability/can't count on him in Dec/subsequent playoff run) Losing MIKE NOLAN ... huge. |

Kiko Alonzo , Alazone and apple can walk , pj willams ,Marcus Williams can get traded it wouldn’t bother me in the least-and mike Nolan is leaving because of DA should have took over his job . The back end of our defense has sucked and keep sucking when it counts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
We can't afford two, three Demario Davis's, no team can without sacrificing in other areas...
Most successful teams prioritize, slot money at QB, CBs, OL, WRs, DEs... The Saints, like most teams, play nickel defense over 50% of the time, that's why stud LB thumpers don't get drafted to late in the third day of the draft, if at all... Get the frustration, but for what we're paying - Klein is a bargain. If Anzalone is signed at the same slot, so would he. From what I'm told, Anzalone extensive college injury finally has the care, time to heal... And I'd be really p/o'd to have given up Vince Biegel for a one year rental on Alonzo; the quad injury was a freak injury and he obviously came back too soon and compounded his injury... Plus, we have some terrific young LBers who were stashed on Reserve, Injured that will bring a lot to Training Camp this coming season... If we haven't traded away our 5th, 6th round picks, I'm looking for guys like Cal's Evan Weaver, Wake Forest' Justin Strnad, and former QB, UNC LBers Chazz Surratt to fall and snag them then... |

I think Parcells said it best ... "if you have too many average guys on the roster, it makes you an average team at best". |
Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Parcells also never sniffed the SuperBowl after Free Agency took over the league after the late 90s...
Could our linebacker play be better? Absolutely. But our linebacker play is still among the top third in the league, and I can live with that if our skill players, WRs not named Thomas, DBs would step up and finish the deal... |

Klein - UFA Kiko - 3rd ACL tear (possibly cap casualty) Thor - good player but can he go the distance? It would be very wise for the Saints front office brass to address the linebacker position this off season and into the draft. There could be a stud that falls from 3rd -5th round like that assassin Dre Greenlaw/Arkansas (Niners). Terrific 5th round (did not run 40 @ combine due to sore hamstring) rookie draft pick. I'm no longer content with the core we have now. Good enough for reg season ? Sure but the playoffs ... different animal & we need more sideline dawgs. |

Amie Just
✔ @Amie_Just Saints are signing WR Maurice Harris to a reserve/future deal. He was with the Patriots this past offseason before going on IR, and later being released with an injury settlement. Was previously with Washington. 9:27 AM - Jan 16, 2020 · New Orleans, LA |

LG (2) 62 - Nick Easton (FA 2019), 75 - Andrus Peat *LP (Forearm Fx) ..
While I'm not sure if Nick can become a full time starter in 2020, I do know Peat can't. |
Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Brace yourself ...
Saints have added Tommy Lee Lewis to the roster. I'm not sure why Sean Payton keeps bringing this dude back. |

TLL has got to be a camp body.
If Tommy makes the final 53 man roster that would mean to me that we didn't do well in the draft and in Free Agency. |

We all want a shiny new BMW M5, however once we see the sticker price ... reality sets in. *** I've mentioned Breshard Perriman a couple of times because Sean Payton has seen him play up close in person within the division ...twice. He's healthy, has the 1st rd pedigree & will come relatively cheap. |

What about Eric armstead from the niners that guy was. A big part of the pass rush can we afford him? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Good pass rushers ... pricey & I don't think the Saints will call. IDK St. T... 2019 was a great year for him but what about the previous 2 or 3 out in San Fran? Very sub par. |

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
25 - Eli Apple ... initially he played well but is there confidence issues? Was a bit inconsistent in NY, same applies in New Orleans.
Rez mentioned a name that I like too .. Byron Jones. Vet and he's consistent at corner. |
Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
17 - Emmanuel Butler (UDFA 2019)
18 - Keith Kirkwood 80 - Austin Carr .. he plays a mean piano though. ^^^^^ I think we have at least 5 UDFA's on the current roster ... there is a lack of talent. The lack of talent shows up when you go against more talented (PLAYOFFS) players. Ginn, Tre both below average production in 2019. We have NOTHING behind Michael Thomas. Saints have been fortunate that CGM has been in pristine health, however a injury could happen on any given play. RE TOOL must happen this off season. Side bar on the WR core ...Take some Taysom Hill had more TD's, higher catch %, more catches than Tre'quan Smith. Taysom Hill. Blows my mind that some think "we are fine" with the current WR core. If the Saints moved on/benched Tre' in 2020, I'll understand. |

I was reading one of your tweets on "several teams interested in Eli Apple". Watch how much money is thrown his way in Free Agency. If the Saints are "all in, Super Bowl or bust") this season, cutting Janoris makes little sense. Top performer on short notice in NO & locked down a very good WR (Diggs) when it mattered most in the playoffs. For a skilled player of his caliber, 11M doesn't seem all that bad to me. Can you imagine how well he'll perform with a full camp in Metarie? Latt & Janoris would compliment each other well. |
