2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Interesting that Zenner competed with Washington for a roster spot in Lions training camp to in 2016. Now he's back again, he's basically battling Washington again for a crack at that same third and last RB spot....

Okay, so according to the presser shared by Ms Amie Just, Kiko's backing up Anzalone at MLB...

However, Alonso played Mike backer his rookie year; Alonso, 6' 3", 239 lbs, was moved to the weak-side his second year in BUF, but injured his knee and was lost for the season...

In 2015, PHI HC Chip Kelly traded LeSean McCoy for Alonso, who he'd coached at Oregon; but PHI was already set with DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks...

By season's end, Chip Kelly was gone and Alonso was traded to MIA...

In 2016, MIA started Alonso at MLB, but soon moved him to the WLB as BUF had planned where he could cover on the outside, he blew up with a terrific season...

In 2017, MIA placed a first round tender on him and signed him to his current contract; they also left him at WLB...

Fast forward to this season where MIA is Tanking for Tua, and they unloaded his contract with the Saints who wanted more experience than rookie Kaden Ellis has at MLB, and can play and run on the outside...

That said, if Anzalone is healthy, it's either him or Alonso at the MIKE, likely Anzalone who played awesomely last year for us at the MIKE...

And Alonso is not replacing DeMario Davis at the WILL, so it would seem Alonso with be a very fast SAM backer, but Anzalone could also kick out to SAM...

If we're putting the best three LBers on the field, that 33% of the time we're not in nickel or dime packages, then it's Davis, Anzalone, and Alonso...

They're also the only three LBers that can play all three LBer spots in a 4-3; Robertson, if healthy, can play WILL, MIKE; Rookie Kaden Ellis is for sure a MIKE; and Klein can play SAM and MIKE...

So following that progression, expect Alonso would be put at SAM or MIKE, likely SAM, as it's a shorter learning curve; Anzalone would take the other spot, likely MIKE, where he excelled last year...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

So basically what you're saying is that we have pretty darn good depth.

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

Don't know what's going on in practice, but I sure hope Greenidge, Villanova alum, is the goods; because when Armstead goes down again, Ramcyzk can't play LT/RT at the same time...

And while I've been a Peat advocate, he was underrated as a LG/LT, I'm thoroughly disappointed with his conditioning going into training camp - as a professional athlete with NFL resources, that's indefensible...

Now he may have had an injury that limited him, but there are ways to condition around injuries, especially with the kinesiology available to these guys today...

LT (1) 72 - Terron Armstead

LG (2) 75 - Andrus Peat, 73 - Ethan Greenidge (UDFA 2019)

C (2) 78 - Erik McCoy (R2P16, #48), 62 - Nick Easton (FA 2019)

RG (2) 67 - Larry Warford, 64 - Will Clapp

RT (2) 71 - Ryan Ramcyzk, 60 - Patrick Omameh (FA 2019)

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

One of the reasons I was excited about Will Clapp, besides being a home-grown product of Louisiana, was that he could swing between all three interior positions and was a capable Right Tackle...

He needs to get much stronger and get serious in the weight room, especially with respected to his arms - this guy should have a serious set of guns on him...

DE 70 - Mitchell Loewen (FA 2019) ... if Mitch can get healthy, he can help.
