A typical preseason game, just glad that football is coming back.

Hope everyone has a good night's rest. Keep in mind this was only preseason and nothing to really panic over.

Its normal for us to look sluggish, and a bit lost in preseason... going back to '06, Payton's first year.... it shifts to a new gear game 1. :bandg:

I mean... we’ve lost in week one for 5 straight years.

Re: Saints vs Vikings Game Day Thread

On the plus side...

Erik McCoy- Looks like a seasoned vet already. Excellent draft pick.

Cyril Grayson- Ted Ginn’s replacement? Very impressive showing tonight.

Deonte Harris- I’m not sure there’s room for just a return specialist but man he’s good.

Vince Biegel- Saw him playing off-ball LB and putting his hand in the dirt at DE. Plays with a certain intensity.

AJ Derby- Ran decent routes when lined up at TE and blocked well lined up as an H-Back.

I’m sure there were a few more standouts that I’m forgetting.

Eli Apple Ken Crawley have to be some of the best corners to be in position to make a play on the ball and don't I mean seriously it's crazy it's like we always have at least one corner who can ACTIVATE COVER but can't make a play on the ball

Re: Saints vs Vikings Game Day Thread

Based solely on this first drive we are not week one ready at least on defense

I'm hoping for the best from Eli but if he plays like this on the regular season I wouldn't mind bringing Crawley back...but just don't resign Eli of this continues into the regular season

Ken is still on the team. He played most of the 4th quarter.

I know he's still on the team, bringing him back off the bench to start

What is our best player doing on the field in the first PS game. I don't understand Payton sometimes. Kamara and MT should have not been out there in this one. Then kicking field goals. There is way more value in calling a play. Just go for it who cares.

Not going to get much easier after that. Gonna be really tough this year. Lets hope the defense got their suckyness out of the way.
Davenport needs to step it up. He’s not going to be able to rely on his physical capability at this level. I wanted to see a big game from him.

Re: Saints vs Vikings Game Day Thread

Patrick Robinson and Dan Arnold deserve to be cut right now.

P-rob got beat by the worst double move and worst throw I've ever seen in my life, yet somehow still allowed the TD.

Dan Arnold - as soon as he made one good play, I knew a debt has to be paid. He always makes one decent play and then breaks our back with a crippling turnover or drop.

Defense looked real bad, just sloppy.
Teddy B and Taysom looked pretty good. Grayson and LJH had some good plays.

Re: Saints vs Vikings Game Day Thread

-Bridgewater looked very poised and accurate.
-Harris is a legit returner.
-Robertson continues to shine when he gets on the field.
-Humphrey is very good after the catch.
-Ozigbo is absolutely the real deal.
-Lutz is arguably the best in the NFL.
-Grayson has skills.

-I personally would not have played Thomas, Kamara and Armstead.
-I get the Saints were playing vanilla on defense. I get it's preseason. You don't want to showcase your schemes and put them on tape. But, defense is about attacking. I'm concerned that if you practice/play soft even when it doesn't count, it trickles over. The best defenses come at you from the time they step off the bus. It's a mind set. The Saints don't have that. Also, to play a whole game where NOBODY on defense other than Robertson flashes, is just not good.

Beastmode 08-10-2019 07:56 AM

Re: Saints vs Vikings Game Day Thread

Robertson making most of the stops looked similar to 2016 when Stupar was making every tackle in PS. We lost 3 out the gate in the RS. Could be nothing but that should not be happening. Vikings backups looked disciplined. Even the plays we did make, they didn't gift them to us.

Defensive garbage , preseason I no but dam kubiak laughing at our duds. Davenport has to get nastier sorry.

We were so solid last preseason on D. We were stacked with depth and I were expecting even better this season . It’s only preseason but goooollllly them cut backs for tons of yards . Pee wee football is coached for containment for that.

I don’t disagree and felt like to much camp hype and not enough football skills and IQ showing last night. No pressure on the defensive line part ... ever ... all has a cascading effect on the secondary but they stunk it up.

I did like what I saw from Bridgewater and Latavius Murray I think they are bothe the real deal.

Definitely agree with Bridgewater ,Murray saints knew what they were doing to retain him he’s seasoned and ready to pounce. If Brees retires we’ll be fine. Murray brings a whole different animal to push a pile I like . Not bashing Ingram but we won’t miss him.

You guys are good, no way I could draw this much conclusion from the first preseason game.

Re: Saints vs Vikings Game Day Thread

Murray did raise some eyebrows. I still think it will be a 3 RB attack system.

Murray is not a young man, real close to 30 and dealing with some injuries and the season hasn't even started. Ozigbo looked great. If we can keep Murray fresh he's going to own the 4th quarter.

No kidding. We need to take these guys to Vegas given how well they understand the complete dynamics of the team given so little data ... virtually no data.

Wow!

You can't watch a game and tell the good from the bad? There's 4 quarters worth of film that says this team is obviously not ready YET there was good, some bad, some ugly.....good=Latvius Murray, Teddy Bridgewater, McCoy, bad= pass rush, ugly= Patrick Robinson, Eli Apple, Gray, Ola,

He was doubled a few fit but, I expected at least one sack from him. He has to work on using his hands and length. Active hands and Half a man

I can tell that 75% of the players that played 90% of the game won't even be on the opening roster. Trying to surmise anything about the team is foolish at this point. Offensive and defensive squads are only as good as their weakest link and around a third of the current 90 man roster are weak links that are playing the majority of the snaps.

That is true but look what the Rams did with their backups. That means depth if they keep that up. We can't build good depth with that level of whiffing. A handful of injuries and we're screwed. It's just PS but it's fundamental stuff.
