He also said winning another Lombardi wouldn't factor into any retirement decision.

Secondly, while Teddy has done a good job of filling in in the interim, he still can't hold Brees' jockstrap. I doubt we can keep him as Brees' backup and hope he finds a starting job elsewhere.
I dunno Guido, I think people are fooling themselves that "because of the new QB rules" QB's are going to keep going until 45-50. Big Ben's arm almost fell off doing what, throwing a pass? Payton Manning went from the top of his game in 2014 and then fell off a cliff in 2015 at 39. Farve had a fantastic 2009, only to fall off the rails in 2010 and retire at 41 and he's one of the toughest SOB's I've seen play QB. Assuming Drew will play the next 5 years at a high level and stay healthy is a pretty big risk. While I'll be the first person to say that Teddy is not Drew he's also sure as hell not Winston, Mariotta, Fitzpatrick, Trubisky, Flacco, Tannehill, Rosen, et cetera. We let Teddy get away, who knows when we get another good QB and in the meantime we waste a friggin' fantastic D, ST, OL, and RBs trying to find one. Teddy can win in our current scenario. We need to make a hard decision AFTER this season.

This...that cliff is steep and you don’t know when it’s coming. None of the QBs you listed above thought that it would come upon them that quickly. You have to be very careful with this decision. The draft is definitely a gamble and while it doesn’t seem like it TB is very young and has had pretty good success in the league. If we continue to build a great team around the QB, we don’t need a superstar QB to win.

Once again, Peyton Manning's "deep cliff" was based upon a serious neck injury and nerve damage. He also was never the workout demon that Brees is proven to be. This isn't the 1970's. Hell, this isn't even the early 2000's! Whether you choose to believe it or not, with today's new year round training and nutrition athletes in every sport will play longer ... especially at a well protected position like QB.
