God and the Saints?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; This would be interesting to know. It seems like most of Louisiana would have made this deal and by golly... it happened... Would any of you have made this deal with God on Friday Night? If God would have told ...

Would any of you have made this deal with God on Friday Night?

If God would have told you that in order for LSU to win against Alabama on Saturday and because the Saints alway suck at least one game a year, the Saints would have to lose to Atlanta in the Superdome on Sunday. Would any of you accepted that deal?

Most of Louisiana would have made this deal because it was such a huge deal for LSU. That game was unbelievable for LSU fans!

So now you know why the Saints lost.

No way in Hell. I don't care what LSU does. I have one team and one team only and that has always been the Saints. I don't get the whole pulling for a college that you never attended. I'll bet you that 95% of so called LSU fans have never taken a single course at LSU-Baton Rouge.

What a Bozo? You live in Louisiana?

I watched all of the Saints games for over 40 years.

Still, you maybe right...
I have never taken a course at LSU but LSU has alway been part of my life for 60+ years. I have best friends and a daughter that all graduated from there.

And I suppose you played for, or were affiliated with the Saints? What a dumb, grumpy comment.

Of course not. Professional sport allegiance is different than college sports, as far as I am concerned. But, I am affiliated with the Saints emotionally since learning the new state to which I moved at age nine was getting its own NFL team. I never really had any personal interest in any college team until I attended NC State and that remains the only college program that I actively support.

No grumpiness involved. I guess given that LSU is the only major college program in the state is what gives it its popularity to non-affiliated fans. It wasn't that way in North Carolina with five major programs.

I can see the point went right over your head. Your rationale for being a Saints fan is that you are emotionally connected to them. All the other side bar comments you made are really neither here nor there. And emotions are what connect ALL fans to ANY team.

A fake fan is one who only supports winning teams, and constantly jumps from one team to another. We call those bandwagon fans. I know you're familiar with the term. For me, my Dad went to LSU and I grew up watching LSU with him. I never went there, but they are the state school, and I've always loved them and do not pull for any other college team.

So if you have a problem with me calling myself an LSU fan, then I have a problem with you calling yourself a Saints fan. And for you to say "it wasn't like that in North Carolina" is bull crap. Yeah, you have more major universities there, but if you think that all fans of those teams went to those colleges, you are lying to yourself.

So I have a great idea, to remove all confusion. Why don't we all just pull for whoever we want to, and why don't you just find something else to complain about.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

I didn't attend LSU, but I sure did party there a few times. Challenging someone's 'fanhood' is what little men do. I agree with you 110%.

I have no problem with you, or anyone, calling themselves an LSU fan. Especially since you have the family tie. That makes perfect sense. I mentioned that as a qualifier earlier. What I don't understand are those that went to some other college, has no direct ties to LSU, and still calls LSU "their" team.

And, yes, I am very familiar with bandwagon fans. There are a lot of them here in northeast Louisiana. They are also known as Cowboys fans. A surprisingly large number of them are also LSU fans. They either never attended any college, or went to somewhere like La Tech or ULM (NSU).

And I know quite a few people from NC, and virtually all of their collegiate sports ties are either personal or familial. Many are split with some members being UNC fans and others being NCSU fans. Same with Duke, Wake Forest and ECU to a lessor degree. Much smaller schools so less of a fanbase.

As a side note, did you attend school elsewhere and if so, where?

I never went to college/university and always consider myself the smartest person in the room...except when other people are in there and spoil my moment!
