Re: ESPN senior writer says Saints are a 'wild card' if Cam Newton tests free agency
I believe if he had Romo then Romo would have a ring. I feel the same way about Stafford. Cousins? Maybe not. Garoppolo? Not sure. But I believe Sean Payton would get the most out of Cam Newton. He’s a Heisman winning, Rookie of the Year awarded, former league MVP who’s been to a Super Bowl and has had a successful career with a defensive minded coach.

Sean has a type and its not Cam Newton.. None of these guys are self serving show boats that want spotlight. Drew Brees Teddy Bridgewater Taysom Hill Luke McCown Marc Brunell Sean is the same way with receivers.. Jimmy was a spectacle after a TD with the dunk but put a mic in front of him and he is subdued and articulate. Colston, Thomas, Kamara, Ingram... none are flamboyant publicly. Here is one I heard come out of Cam's mouth: "You look good, you play good; you play good, they pay good" I've so much to say about that statement lol You may not realize it but Cam is often injured... Since 2016 he has only had one 16 game season. I will give him this though, when he is healthy the Panthers record is a whole lot better than if he doesn't start 16... |

I think the media has made a bigger deal about his “leadership” than it really is. I’ve never really heard teammates or ex-teammates speak bad of Newton, and when they went to the Super Bowl it was because he led them there. He’s a proven winner at every level. ![]()
Cam Newton has said some things that have made me lose respect for him as a person. However, I can’t act like I wouldn’t be willing to take a chance on him as a football player, especially if Teddy decides he wants to be somewhere else. I believe the future is now and quarterbacks who can move are the pathway. Josh Allen Lamar Jackson Deshaun Watson Patrick Mahomes Carson Wentz Dak Prescott That added threat is the wave. It’s the real reason Joe Burrow is thriving at LSU in my opinion and why he will do the same at the next level. The kid can do both. |

The only ones that are really injury prone are Wentz and Watson. The Brees, Brady’s, and Manning’s who play until they’re 40 aren’t the norm anyway. I’ll take a good 5-8 years of high level play. That’s one big contract and you move on.

Those guys all played, or have been playing for a long time. The idea that you're going to go all in with a running QB for 5-8 year and move on is kind of insane. As hard as it is to find a good QB, why would you think you can find another every 5-8 years? It's better to just invest in your defense and sign game managers like Alex Smith, than to think you can bring in a franchise QB that often. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

There is a lot of focus on respect these days in social media, I've stepped off a plane locked and loaded with people that I didn't respect and it had no effect on my performance what so ever. I would be a hypocrite to require respect to want someone on a football team. I have to know someone to develop a respect for them and I can honestly say that I have zero respect for Drew Brees, I dont know him as a person. I admire his leadership and skills on the field, I also think his philanthropy is very notable and shows high character. That said If I had a dollar for every asinine statement that I have made throughout my life Id be waiting for a new Fodera (bass guitar) to arrive in the next day or two lol. <--- And thats without a few million in my bank, a camera in my face, and a persona to maintain. When Drew went down earlier I would have much rather had Cam Newton the healthy football player on the field than anyone we had on the team... He hasn't been healthy and Cam Newton the football player doesn't come without Cam Newton the peacock. Just color me conflicted. ![]() |
