What are you willing to do to have Drew Bress back next season? What would make you want to pass on re-signing the future HOF player?

For me, it's time for Drew to take the kind of pay cut that allows this roster to be rounded out.

Want to know what sucks? We’ll carry $21.3 million in dead cap next season for Drew Brees whether he plays or not thanks to how we did his contract. So if we re-sign him to another one or two year deal with a $25-30 mil cap hit... he’s going to count almost $50 mil of our cap space.

I would like to move on from drew and use the money to fix the o line interior,add another really good receiver,and another stud to play next to dimario along with resigning what we have. I love Drew,and I honestly don't think he's quite done,but for some reason the team seems to play better without him. Maybe it's just the predictability factor when he's in. We have a damn good team and coaching staff and the was proved when we won 5 games strait with teddy frikin Bridgewater! Not trying to dog drew out,just giving my honest opinion. That guy will always be a legend here!

It's really tough to know. Brees is still so accurate it seems a waste for him to retire. I think we might want to consider a true 50/50 2-QB system with Brees and Taysom. It would extend Drew's career and let us get the versatility our offense needs. It would also show Drew doesn't give a poo about the records and really just wants another ring. The more I think about it, that might be the best way to go. You can't underestimate the effect of not having Brees' leadership and going cold turkey.

Then Brees would be doing it for the wrong reasons. The records don't matter, good chance Mahomes or Burrow some other young QB will trump them anyway. Just ask Dan Marino.

It’s time for him to go. Blame the OL, blame the wr, blame the coaching, blame the rb, and blame the refs. The true REASON is BREES, what coaches preach from lil league is protect the football. Interception led to a Viking td. Fumble cost us putting points on the board.

Do you think those 53 guys still have faith in Brees or prefer Hill or Bridgewater? It’s time to move on.

I am NOT throwing Brees out or on the AntiBrees campaign, but he was off today. It happens. O line, D line over all were off too.

Payton should have put Hill in at qb in 4 th guarter to stay.

With all due respect to you, Brees did not get the Saints here. Not this year. He was up and down, and this team, for whatever reasons people want to believe, played better and more consistently in the games he missed.

My opinion is that this team was forced to play a balanced brand of football without Drew. And when he came back, it went right back to making Brees the focal point, and his diminished arm strength severely limits how diverse the passing plays can be anymore. There is virtually no threat of the deep pass. Because Drew is still an elite mind at the QB position, and is accurate in the distances he can reasonably throw to, he will have his moments. And we saw that. But we also saw some mediocrity in several games.

I don't say it's time to get rid of him, as this team needs to groom someone to take his place. But it IS time for this team to get serious about doing just that, and preparing for life after Brees. And it's time to stop pretending that Taysom is the 3rd string QB and make him a full time WR/TE. He's not a gimmick player. He is a star, who is confoundingly being straight jacketed by his "QB" status, all while the coaches have no problem making him cover kicks and punts. It's idiotic.

When has any coach thrown in a qb over their HOF qb? Just dumb. We made bad gambles because we were being out coached, out played. This is the Saints ball I have grown up watching... We were unprepared. PERIOD. We should have grabbed Emanuel Sanders when he was available. These loss' have been reoccurring since I cannot remember. We have always been just one half foot short of a tackle, one blown missed tackle, one etc etc... Notice how I said nothing of the refs until now.... Sure, we got boned last year, sure it was a PI yesterday.... Little big plays screwed us per usual. WHO DAT! Stop being Houston fans and nut up, Brees has one more good one in him.

Thinking Brees is what got us here is ridiculous. This is a complete team man,and a damn good one.
And I agree with you on teddy and that's exactly my point. We won 5 games with that guy. Coaching and players stepped up in Brees was out proved this team gets complacent with him here.

i think either brees retires or we should not resign him. i say that with the upmost respect for what he's done here. might feel differently if he didn't already have over 20 on the books for next season. if we sign him to a one year deal, we're looking at almost 50 million on one player. that means serious cap casualties, and i just don't think drew is going to be the reason we win another super bowl, so it doesn't seem worth it.

if we're looking to the future, i would sign taysom to a reasonable contract that is backloaded to allow us to retain some of the current talent. make him the starter. once drew's money is off the books after next season taysom's contract can go up and we won't be in such a bad spot. if taysom doesn't shake out as a good starting QB, we have a bad season, get a good draft pick and start fresh with our QB hunt and not be in a terrible spot with taysom because his contract would likely be manageable and if he can't play QB we know he can play pretty much any other position.

I love drew and want him back. No one out there could do the job he does. With that said I pray he doesn’t want 20+ a year. If this is truly his last year he should want to go out on top. The saints will need the extra money to pick up a wr and resign some fa’s. Kinda a squirrel moment but I hope they trade AK for a ton of picks. He was a good at best this year and most of the time he was outplayed by Murray. Trade AK for a rd 1 and 3 this year, move up to draft burrow and our future is set

He should learn a lesson from Brady, take a pay cut and have the Saints buy some O-line and receiver talent with it. Barring that, next season will look like 16 X yesterday.

No way I see Brees coming back for less than 20 Million....I could be wrong but if he would have done that several years ago we could have definitely had a better team around him in his prime.

As K Major said, we have a lot of decisions to make this offseason. All our QBs are up for contracts and we have several deficiencies that have to be addressed...OL, CB, S, WR...are all major decisions with very little cap room.

Our window is just about shut...but we do have a good core group of players.

I don't want him back, he is done, Vikings exposed the biggest secret about Drew. rush him up the middle and he is worthless,

People say how can you throw out the most accurate qb in the league. if you been watching the game like I have most of his passes go to one player Thomas or he throwing short passes. Thomas catching radius is out of this world and even Brees worst passes is most likely going to be completed to Thomas. He got his record which I think he cared mostly about for his legacy. I really lost my respect for him throwing one his teammates under the bus, How you going to blame ONE receiver not running the right route for you fumbling the ball. If the play is not there you find someone else or throw the ball away. Not drift back for more time to focus on ONE wr. I really believe he was trying to compete with the pass of Taysom Hill to Deonte. He can't stand when the accolades and appraisal is going to someone else under center, that's why I believed he rushed back from his injury. Like I said before I am a saints fan not a Brees groupie.

I want him back as a QB coach. I don’t want to see him as the QB next year.

He may be the greatest regular season QB ever but when he gets in the playoffs he has been consistently bad or lackluster. When your game plan is based on how your QB limits your offense your always fighting with one hand behind your back. Brees hasn’t been able to throw a deep ball since 2013, and it’s gotten worse every year since. Every D knows how to play Drew now and good DCs will always beat him.

We need to move into the new age of QBs and stop limiting what Payton calls, it’s time to move on from Drew and thank him for his time.

If Drew comes back, we’ll be in this same spot next year. We’ll beat the bad teams and lose when it matters against legit playoff teams.

How many playoff teams did Drew beat this year? Just Houston... and we could have easily lost that one.

Does it not bother anyone else that we have to sub in a different QB to throw a good deep ball? Then Brees starts pressing because of his ultra-competitive nature and he does what we saw yesterday.

I hate to agree. I love Drew Brees. I know we all do. I'm not going to be angry if we bring him back, but I agree, I think it's time. We're going to have to move on, and we have two guys in the building we can go to.

I'm afraid the end is near for Drew. As you said he was positively mediocre more often than usual. I may just be that thumb (hoping), but I don't think he can toss it any more than 40 yards in the air. Just no zip at all.

I'm now concerned that the end of a HOF career is very near. He's slowly turning into Chad Pennington. It makes me sad:(

Brees is the greatest Saint to have ever played, but his time is coming. Nothing wrong with that, I dont hate him as a player, he's done amazing things for this organisation - but yesterday was one of the first times I've ever wanted Taysom to stay in instead of Brees.
Like already stated, anything over 30-40 yards and Brees' cannot execute it, not to mention the moment he gets a clean pocket he launches it into double coverage.

Paytons play calling is pretty suspect though too. Completely abandoning the run when Murray was running hard and the Vikings D knew all we did was pass.

With 3 consecutive playoff defeats and 6 playoff losses in the last decade, I think some major changes are necessary.

I think some of the underperforming players need to find new homes, specifically;

Peat, Warford, Ginn, Trequan, PJ and Marcus Williams to mention a few.

Well, this is awkward. I think almost everyone can see the writing is on the wall - it's going to be damn-near impossible to get by with a slow pocket QB in this league. The athleticism/talent of pass rushers and linebackers keep getting better and Offensive lines, even the good ones, just can't match it. The league collectively is getting play-action happy, running more, using multiple tight-ends sets - anything to keep their QB from getting bombarded. The real evidence comes in the sheer number of QB injuries this year.

This leaves us, the Pats and Chargers, at the minimum, in very awkward spots with our prestigious older franchise QB's. It seems ridiculous to show them the door after all they've done on and off the field. It seems ridiculous to keep using a square peg in what is now a round hole league where QB mobility is becoming vital. It seems ridiculous to think of all-time greats being relegated to playing in the XFL. It seems ridiculous to run a 2-QB system with Brees and Taysom evenly splitting the workload (even though I suggested it yesterday).

We could double down on Brees OR give our offense a complete makeover. Neither is going to be easy from the look of it.

I don’t know of anyone else available that would be any better next year. Our draft sucks and good QBs aren’t exactly falling off trees. I think Brees has another year in him. It’s not his play that’s dropping off, it’s his health. Something wasn’t right yesterday. Hill was in as a passer more than he had been all season and I think it was out of necessity because Brees got dinged up somehow.
I would like to see us use a two QB system for one year and see if we can steal a SB that way. Not a long term solution but may work for a year.

FAct time: We went 3-13 the last year we had anyone besides Brees at QB.

An aged Brees is still the best. He's still accurate. 90% of QB is half mental. He's smarter than anyone else who plays the game, including
Brady. And he can still outrun yall's Pillsbury asses, and throw the out pattern, which you cant do.

Yes, he makes too much money, unless he can block for himself. They all make
too much money. But open up a window. Some of yall need some air.
