Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
What happened to LB McQueen? I'd like him if he lasted to the 2nd and wouldn't be sad if we took him in the 1st.
Pick no WRs early in a WR-deep draft. Last time, we did anyway with B. Cooks (over Landry in the 2nd). Didn't optimize. Liked WR Antonio Gibson even when JP projected him in the 3rd. Really like if the 4th. Prefer a 1st round trade down for 2nd round/plus but (if keeping our 1st): No. 24 (R1, 24) DE A.J. Epenesa, Iowa; Height: 6' 5", Weight: 275 lbs. Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Big question re: Where to take Antonio Gibson is where do the Saints envision him? As a WR or a RB? or both?
To me, he's a cross between a Steve Smith-type WRz and a WR3; some scouting services including Steve Shoup are convinced he's a RB. Reviewing many of the mocks/sims, he's going anywhere between the late 3rd to the 5th, so I moved him down into the 4th. |

Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Some of my problems with Queen are:
His length in the Saints 4-3/Nickel/Heavy Nickel is gonna be a problem, that's a big reason why I believe Robertson is kept on special teams nearly exclusively... Queen is quick, fast, just not that fast that he can compensate for that length; Think in terms of a WR with a big catch radius, a taller LBer will have reach to minimize those areas... Another issue is Queen only has a half season of good tape; now that tape looks really good, and he's efficient - but do we want just efficient in Round 2 or a playmaker? Believe the better fit for him will be on the inside in a 3-4 like the Steelers where he can complement and clean up a lot of plays, racking up tackle stats, maybe forcing fumbles... In full transparency, maybe being superstitious, as a franchise we've not a good track record with LBers in the 1st round, Alvin Toles in '85, Mark Fields in '95, Stephone Anthony in '15... Lastly, have said this before, two years ago - I've come to realize linebackers are nearly obsolete in today's NFL game... Value in taking LBers in the draft and staying power doesn't warrant a first round pick about like RBs have been reduced as well... To me, if you're gonna use a first round pick, use it on a player that can give 10-12 years to a franchise where you've leverage, control contractually... That's why first round picks are so valuable (unless you're Sean Payton) and I really believe trade charts should be updated to reflect this... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
I believe you can get a dawg linebacker in the middle rounds. Niners Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw were 3rd and 5th rounders respectively already playing at a good to high level.
Don't trust Queen or Murray in the first round. The only linebacker I'd draft in the first is Isiah Simmons and he'll be long gone by the time we pick. |
