Question, How do you know Taysom Hill is putting in as much or less effort than Jamarcus Russell did? In interviews since Hill arrive, I've only heard Brees and Hill disclose how praise of Taysom's work and progress...

Which, leads me to the next...

Question, why would the offense not evolve be different about Taysom's skill set? The NFL is constantly referred to as a copy-cat league. Payton is obviously looking at Chiefs and Ravens, seeing opportunities...

And then there's just that...

Question, How was Taysom to overtake Brees with limited opportunities? Irregardless of Hill's ceiling, Hill can only get better if he's afforded the opportunities on the field at the quarterback position...

Don't know about you, but I definitely knew when I hit 40. While all things are relative, you still know you're 40; 40 may just be a number, but we all know it's not 29 irregardless of our maintenance...

Now just a few years ago, Denver had an amazing team and won games with Tim Tebow - who I'd consider Hill to be a better quarterback. What Tebow had that Denver hadn't had - a leader that inspired...

Know you were watching that game as intensely as the rest of us, and you could see Hill fired those guys up when on the field, gave back confidence and maybe that's what gets this team over this playoff block...

Lastly, Eli Manning retired this week. Can't think of a more apt comparison of Eli and Peyton Manning. Eli wasn't the passer Peyton was, but Eli was Kryptonite in the playoffs...

He'd knocked off a red-hot Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay in the playoffs, defeated an undefeated Brady and the Patriots in the Superbowl. Eli even went to toe-to-toe with a red-hot Brees-led offense...

But when the Manning Boys sit down to Thanksgiving Dinner, both of them have two Superbowl rings each and Payton's second Superbowl run, well, Payton was a shell of his former self...

We knew this time was coming with Brees, all predicted various dates when, but nonetheless the foreboding was coming and we should just watch and enjoy as much of the experience we can...

The only comparison that should be made between Brees and Hill, the only one that matters, what does the scoreboard say at the end of the games in the Tournament...
Sorry, but I just don't have confidence in Hill getting us to the tournament. I can't and won't argue his drive and enthusiasm. I question his ability to be effective on a full-time basis. His limited success at "QB" has come with his as a wildcat, not lined up as an every down QB. He is great, however, when lined up as a TE, or in the slot, or as an H-back. The way I look at it is that Teddy Bridgewater has a low ceiling at QB. I just don't see him as anything but average, which isn't bad, but it was him, not Hill that took over starting duties when Brees went down. There was a reason for that and it wasn't to use Hill in his most valuable role. His touches went WAY down until Brees returned.

Who knows? Maybe Hill can evolve into an every down QB some day. I just haven't seen it myself. I just see us taking a major step back when or if Hill has to take over the role.

And there you have it...

In the same interview Drew slipped and said "we play both KC and the 49ers next year." It was very obvious he's not retiring. And neither he nor Hill have an issue with sharing the QB role.

I’m not sure about that.. even as a fan I say ‘we’ all the time, doesn’t mean I’m suiting up lol.

I just caught his interview on NFLN and it really sounded like he may be leaning toward retiring. He really put an emphasis on how much time and stress he has invested in football, and how his kids are getting older, missing time with them etc...

I saw every interview, I thought, on NFL Network with Brees and I don't remember him saying he was missing time with his kids. He actually spend more time with his family than any other player I can think of. He has said on many occasions that his kids are all finally approaching the age where they can begin to appreciate what he is doing as a player. He is always involving them in everything before, during and after the season. In fact, in one interview earlier today on NFL Radio he said he is treating this off-season just as he has the past three. I was getting the vibe from everything he was saying that things are pretty much status quo and he would be returning. You can tell he feels like he has unfinished business.

Note he didn't say he and Hill WOULD be sharing time. All he said was he wouldn't have a problem if they did. Payton said he and Brees haven't discussed anything since the day after the season ended so this wouldn't have been anything planned by the team. Once again, nothing but speculation by talking heads.

Ironically, one of the hosts or guests on NFL Radio mentioned a few days ago that he expected Brees to decide to retire if he was told by the team that he would be required to share time at QB. This sounds like Brees addressing that misinformed speculation.

It runs counter to Brees' strategy thus far, but you have to wonder if one of Brees' options is privately or publicly informing the Saints this next one will be his farewell season. I think it might be a good option; his agent might not agree.
