Won more drinks than I could count. I'd get better as I drank and they'd get worse. By the way, I was born in Rapid City, SD.

Good start. Back in the early '80's I played in a lot of Open dart tourneys. Open means anybody of any level can enter and play through the brackets. I think it was about 1982 when Leighton Rees, World Champion in 1978, was making the tourney swing through the southern US and he played in the $25K Shreveport stop. I came up against him in the third round. We were playing 301, best two of three. I threw out my ass the first game and beat him. A big local crowd gathered around pulling for me. Hadn't had enough to drink to calm those nerves. He never said a word and played the best games I had ever seen the next two. But, to this day I can say I beat a world champion ... at least once.

He was about 42 at the time. Pretty much the prime for dart pros. This picture is from that era. Damn he was intense. I was pumped when I saw the bracket.

It sounds like the theme from Rocky or Over The Top from a Stallone film.

And I love it when they don't see you coming. My games were foosball and pool. I won the stick that was used in the Louisiana state Champions and went 14th in the Nationals from my friend. I was slightly better than he was. My eyes aren't what they used to be now though.
