I feel like the last few drafts have been more and more bizarre.

We've traded up multiple times for players that just get released before the season starts or never see the field.

It doesn't feel like the Jeff Ireland drafts of old, which makes me think someone else is getting a little too involved again.

Well I can say this regarding Baun, Payton said post-draft that they envisioned him as a Mike. With such an abbreviated offseason and no preseason it’s entirely possible that he just hasn’t had the practice time to make that transition. Instead, in order to get him on the field in some capacity they’ve used him in his college role rushing the passer a couple snaps per game.

I think in due time Baun will be a good LB in New Orleans but we play quite a bit of nickel. A 3rd rounder with no training camp isn't going to make an impact right away.

My concern is how he's coached up.

We just acquired Kwon Alexander; Kwon and Demario are now you're likely Mike and Will moving forward, so that leaves Baun where? Replacing a likely departing Anzalone at the Sam (salary cap) next season...

Just bring in a safety sitting at home. He has to play better than what we have. Last week we played well but I'm not hanging my Lombardi hopes on our secondary just yet.

Earl Thomas - if he's in shape, has anything left in the tank, and values a Lombardi; in the very least, I'd be curious if he could mentor Mr. Marcus any better than Malcolm Jenkins or Dennis Allen has...

I'll be honest, Marcus Williams scares the hell out of me on the back end too.

You're right though … had a decent game vs a QB that can't move. Need to see more consistency on the back end, specifically once post season arrives.

Kwon’s cap hit next season is like $13 mil with no dead money if we release him. It’s entirely possible that Kwon isn’t on the team next season if he doesn’t show enough to warrant a restructure/extension.

87 - Jared Cook ...

I think he bounces back on tomorrow. Remember he was destroying the Niners right up until the cheap shot in the end zone that ruined his night last year.
