Pratville, AL product, transferred from Michigan to WVU where he ranked #4 in the Big 12 for pass breakups, started 10 games as a senior, runs a sub 4.4 etc ...

Is this someone Coach Glenn can polish into a legit #2 CB within a few seasons? Maybe coaches see more promise here vs Deatrick Nichols?

Here is where I agree with JP ...A pre season game or two surely wouldn't hurt in evaluation for guys like this looking to solidify a roster spot.

But there isn’t preseason games so that’s that. Life can be a real ***** so it’s time to move on. In the overall scheme of things it’s really not important. Now electricity would be nice.

Saints Day 11 observations: Drew Brees completes 50-yard pass in Superdome, 11 absent

BY AMIE JUST | STAFF WRITER AUG 29, 2020 - 10:00 PM

The New Orleans Saints returned to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for an evening practice under the lights, getting their first look at the Superdome since they last played in the building in January.

Saints coach Sean Payton said he felt the 1 hour and 45 minute long shells practice in the Dome was beneficial, especially since they won't get any preseason games before Week 1 kicks off on Sept. 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"It was a pretty crisp practice," Payton said of working on several situations and team periods.

PARTICIPATION

Absent: 11 Saints players were not observed in their practice under the lights, including several starters.

Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, safety Saquan Hampton and linebacker Chase Hansen were not present, missing their first practices. Both Hampton and Hansen left practice Friday and went into the training room.

Rookie lineman Cesar Ruiz and running back Ty Montgomery missed their second practice after they appeared to sustain injuries in Thursday's practice.

Defensive end Marcus Davenport was absent for the third straight day. Rookie linebacker Zack Baun missed his fourth day of practice, and veteran safety Malcolm Jenkins was out for the fifth day.

Running back Alvin Kamara was out again for the second straight day, missing his fourth practice in total. It's not known what the reason for his absence is this go-round, but he previously missed two practices due to a stomach bug.

Additionally, guard Andrus Peat (thumb) and linebacker Anthony Chickillo (undisclosed) missed their 11th practice.

Back at practice: After missing Friday's practice, tackle Ryan Ramczyk was present.

New faces: The three players the Saints signed on Saturday were all present at practice. Defensive end T.J. Carter wore the No. 69 jersey. Linebacker Wynton McManis wore the No. 59 jersey. Defensive end Anthony Lanier II wore No. 57, signaling a number change for Baun.

Baun briefly wore No. 53 before the Saints signed Nigel Bradham, but when Bradham was briefly in the fold, Baun wore the No. 57 jersey. Now that Bradham has been released, Baun has reverted back to the 53.

QUARTERBACKS

Quarterback Drew Brees during 7-on-7 periods completed his first three passes, including hitting wide receiver Michael Thomas for what appeared to be a 50-yard pass. Later during the period, he found Thomas again for a pass that went more than 45 yards. Through 7-on-7 drills, Brees completed 6-of-10 passes.

During team, Brees completed at least 5-of-8 passes, missing on one deep pass to tight end Jared Cook that was broken up by safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson/Ceedy Duce in the endzone.

Other Receivers Brees connected with during 11-on-11s were: Deonte Harris, Tre'Quan Smith, Thomas and Cook. The last play of team drills was a handoff to running back Dwayne Washington.

Brees had two passes that were batted down by defensive backs (detailed further below), but he bounced back with touchdown passes to both Cook and Smith in the last stretch of practice.

Quarterback Taysom Hill completed 2-of-4 passes during 7-on-7s, finding running back Tony Jones Jr. and wide receiver Marquez Callaway.

Hill had two series during team, completing both of his passes during the first drive with one completion going to tight end Tommy Stevens and the other to wide receiver Juwan Johnson for roughly a 20-yard gain. (I, a short person, couldn't see much of his second series. But I did see Hill throw a heater to wide receiver Emmanuel Butler that went through the back of the end zone.)

Quarterback Jameis Winston completed all three of his 7-on-7 passes to Jones, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and running back Dwayne Washington Jr.

During team, Winston didn't fare as well, throwing at least three incomplete passes, though the last of which was a dropped ball by tight end Adam Trautman.

Yes, it is true that a pre-season game or two would help evaluation, but these are special times and we should be happy we are going to be having an NFL season to watch. Besides, it may turn out that MORE players get a chance this year as opposed to the past. Practice squads have been expanded to sixteen players. Rules regarding protecting players and shuffling players in and out of the 53 man roster have been relaxed. Teams will be giving players 2nd, 3rd and 4th chances in this climate and you can be assured that player evaluations will be continuing full speed ahead after the season begins ... especially given the lack of much NCAA football to evaluate in person.

Washington has had that bumpy road in his football career, but I believe this is genuine UDFA gold as the raw talent is there...

KW just needs coaching up, something Payton's teams haven't been too patient in doing unless backed into a corner like 2017, but the results were tremendous...

All this trading up has negatively affected our ability to address multiple positions in getting youth coming in behind starters so we're not always in salary-cap purgatory...

We should be bringing in at least one new boundary CB and one S every season, with at least one Day 1 or Day 2 pick spent in that group every year...

Sean Fazande Fox8 New Orleans interviewed Taysom Hill where they discussed a number of things including Hill becoming a Dad and No PreSeason Games...

Hadn't realized that no one has been effected as much by a lack of PreSeason Games than Taysom Hill, where an NFL QB needs as many snaps as possible to hone his skills, craft...

Now, if he's truly the No.2, he'll have to take those snaps in regular season games - when it all counts, so it'll be interesting to see what Payton doesn in the God-forbid, unforeseen happening...
