this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Thomas isn't going anywhere unless he does something to void his contract. With his cap hit and Brees' possible retiring after this season, those 2 would count for over 40 million on next year's salary cap which is expected to ...

Not specifically. It was up to the Saints to deal out the punishment they saw fit. There’s a clause in his contract that voids up to 35 mil of his guaranteed money if he’s suspended by the Saints or the league. They chose to just fine him and sit him, not officially suspend him. They could have officially suspended him but they did him a solid by not doing it.

MT#12 doesn’t have an “official” history of incidents requiring punishment, and with the help of the NFLPA, he would have appealed, and most talking heads discussing this issue state unambiguously that MT#12 would have won that appeal. Trust me, MT#12 was not “done a solid” by the Saints. He was always on top of the situation. Now though, he does have an “official” fine/punishment and infraction history, so it’s much easier for the team to punish harder, should MT#12 become a problem, or..., more if a problem, if you prefer.

Dude’s a beast, those complaining about a practice field scuffle are just clutching their respective pearls, imho.
