Re: USA Today Saints Wire | Saints vs. Bears recap: Everything We Know After Overtime Victory

Takeaways from the Game...
  • Saints Need A Real GM to take Sean Payton to task on his Game Management and Play Calling

  • Cam Jordan is not his obvious greatness, but worse, he's not good either as he's struggled against 2nd/3rd string right tackles for several games now

  • Trey Hendrickson's sack at the end looked like he had to give very little effort vs Cam Jordan's where he fell forward catching Foles nearly on his knee which could've been flagged...

  • Drew was definitely locked into Kamara as his primary, secondary receiver; Payton's gotta pull Kamara when calling pass plays to snap Drew out of his target fixation...

  • If fans think getting Thomas, Sanders, and Calloway back is gonna improve Brees' Intended Air Yards/Pass Attempt, I'd like to discuss an investment opportunity with you...

  • Demario Davis had a very inconsistent game; not sure if he's trying to do more than he should, but when he messes up, bad things happen, luckily the Bears' offense stinks...

  • Another game, another week of weak Safety play; how do you show Cover-2 and then have both Safeties run out and leave the center of the field wide-open?!?

  • Is Sean Payton's ego is reaching critical mass that he would see the team's season go up in flames than give Carmichael the keys for a few weeks to get some #perspective?

  • Why are Zach Baun and Adam Trautman not seeing more playing time other than kick coverage?

  • Jared Cook is not the play-making TE fans hoped he'd be, but a garbage time, tertiary option that teams lose focus on before he makes plays, unless he gets multiple chances - don't count on him...

  • Interested to see Ty Montgomery back this week as he'll have to be activated or release (3 week rule) and how Sean will deploy him and for how many snaps; Kamara is gonna get wore down...

  • I'd like to see Dennis Allen be made available more to the media to explain his defensive philosophy and objectives; Cam Jordan can barely rush the passer and he dropped the big lug into coverage?!?

  • Payton must deploy Taysom Hill with more variety, as he did on Taysom's TD Reception - many of the plays are consistently the same, predictable...

  • Troy Aikman, a heavily concussed man, sounded smarter than Sean Payton questioning Sean's Game Management, Play Calling; Aikman sounded like he was pleading with Brees to throw the ball downfield...

  • While I can do without the whole alter-ego, rap-master distractions, I've no problem with Gardner playing f*ck-f*ck games with the opponent, so long as the Saints don't incur a costly penalty...

  • Know it's an MCL, but I believe if there was a sliver of hope Rankins would be signed with the Saints, it's gone with this latest injury; hope it really is just a minor MCL sprain and nothing worse for him...

  • Have I mentioned Brees Intended Air Yards/Pass Attempt? It's really become a theme, and it's a problem die-hards don't won't to face...

  • So someone in the media got told to write a fluff-piece on how brave Mr. Glass was playing through his injury tonight; I'd thought his generous conract would've made it clear to him...

  • Wonder if Ruiz is ever gonna take over Center? McCoy can flat out move and I'd like to have seen McCoy pulling from the RG on that Kamara dash down the left side - he's proven the speed already...

  • Know they're having bad years elsewhere, but we were better defense with Mike Nolan and Vonn Bell in our locker room...

  • Sean Payton's broken the non-disclosure rule re: injuries in the past, but if Cam Jordan really is healthy, maybe this is his last season?

  • Will Michael Thomas really be traded? Maybe this offseason? If we really do acquire a player this week, say a Safety, will it really make a difference with DA as the DC?

jnormand and neugey like this.

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

JP~ No offense intended, but why do you watch? After reading that, it doesn't seem like a healthy option for you.

The last 3 bullets have nothing to do with the game and 90% of the rest would be better served in a "why I don't like Sean Payton, Drew Brees, or Alvin Kamara" blog.

Not even an honorable mention for pulling that game out of our azz?

I’m not saying what you have written aren’t valid issues, to be quite honest our dead horse kicking is as predictable as Sean Payton’s play calling.

The weirdest event for me in that game was Morestead not spinning the laces.

What's the fixation on Intended Air Yards/Pass Attempt? And can you no longer simply enjoy the game for what it is ... a game, my friend. We won and currently have the 2nd best record in the NFC. Although, I guess it does get your mind off two 1st's and a 5th.

Re: USA Today Saints Wire | Saints vs. Bears recap: Everything We Know After Overtime Victory

Positives -
- Played a cleaner game and penalties were lower, particularly PI and holding.
- Kickoff execution/coverage and kickoff returns were executed wonderfully. We are probably one of the best teams in the league at this.
- Did a great job taking Jimmy Graham out of the game
- Protected Brees as well as could be expected vs a pretty solid Bears pass rush
- TreQuan Smith looked better and made some key catches

Negatives
- The much-lamented OT clock management
- The redshirting of Baun and Trautman. I have a hard time believing both of them are coming along this slowly.
- Almost all of the time when we run outside, it seems to be to the left. The Bears caught on and crashed left and the right side of the field looked wide open. This killed a few of our drives.
- Morstead has looked very mortal this year with his punting. I consistently saw a lot better punting on Saturday watching college games. If he has another bad year we need to consider moving on.
- the dropsies by Kamara on the swing passes

Areas to improve
- get Taysom under center for short yardage. Make the defense have to worry about Taysom's raw power on a sneak and Kamara's shifty running.
- play under center more and take advantage of the rollout. Maybe it has to be Taysom on these plays if Brees does not do it well. Almost every other team in the league has this in their arsenal, even the Falcons. The Packers and Titans are an example of teams that do this quite well. Rollout plays are very difficult to stop and keep defenses on their heels. We're behind the curve.
- We are not putting a man in motion to dissect the defense and give ourselves route running advantages the way we should. Brees and Payton should be able to scheme players open for easy, safe completions and I don't see much of it anymore.
- The 2nd and 1 playcalling was quite conservative. QB sneak, FB dive on a down-and-distance where the offense has the greatest advantage doesn't make a lot of sense.
- Need more jet sweeps and misdirection for Tommylee, Deonte or Taysom to keep defenses from keying on Kamara.

Player to draft -
DE Ossai from Texas. That guy is a gamer, looks like Khalil Mack at this point.

Re: USA Today Saints Wire | Saints vs. Bears recap: Everything We Know After Overtime Victory

When you recognize the signs of the same car wreck like it's Groundhog Day and you want your hometown team not to repeat the same scripted exit from the tournament, I see two healthy choices...

You can either voice your dissent or just enjoy things till eliminated from the tournament...

One thing I do notice is that when some have a different opinion about how the Sean Payton-led Saints are operating and it doesn't sync with a Lollipops and Rainbows attitude some make personal push-back...

There's certainly some passive-aggressive psycho-analysis content in the post vs just arguing the post(s) on their merits...

So maybe we can stop with the passive-aggressive DMing behind the scenes getting others to your cause because you can't win your argument(s)?

We all have our personal baggage and some manage it more than others; Disclosure - SmashMouth has known me for nearly forty years (though I learned few years ago who Smash was here - we laughed about it)...

And just for notice, Smash can attest I'm very familiar with navigating many of the passive-aggressive behind-the-scenes kind of f*ckery that some have tipped their toe into that water here...

So if you want to say something, please just engage, don't have someone else msg me - this isn't the High School little girls' prom court; and be man, or woman, enough to admit when you're wrong or agree to disagree...

Now, the local media is marginalized by an over-bearing, tight-fisted VP of Communications; and any and all criticism of Sean Payton's coaching, management in the Press will result in retaliatory consequences by him...

Having a few media friends in the City, I've witnessed this first-hand a couple of times, so maybe I just might have more insight than some of you into that aspect of the team of zero tolerance for public criticism...

When you give someone absolute control of any organization, or even nation for that matter, and even a genuine press is unable to check that individual - it usually results in a long-winding, deteriorating spiral...

We've had the most accomplished passer in NFL history and only one title to show for it; sure, there's a lot of luck involved with the tournament, but but if your watching events with an open, critical mind, you'd see trends...

My former position, if you go back and review, was that Brees and his agent were being greedy and Brees was the beneficiary of Payton's system; like a big boy, I can admit when I'm wrong and reversed it...

Reversed it because I can see the same repetitive mistakes by Sean Payton has resulted in mediocrity results despite one of the best, if not the best, well-stocked rosters in the NFL...

So coming here, stating one's take in a logical, clear manner, inserting a lil' sarcasm and humour to go with it (if you're not too sensitive to the criticism), is a perfectly healthy outlet...

I've blocked no one on this site because I'm not some mental weakling who needs a safe space to operate; but if what I or someone else makes uncomfortable post(s), please block the posts if that'll help you...

I've had my share of clashes with personalities here over the years, and I choose first to question the post, not the poster; but I'm more than willing to accommodate those who choose to make it personal...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

This is a great point. Now that we've got a history of work to point, there's a great reluctance by this coaching staff to coach up rookies to perform on GameDays their rookie year...

Now, for some not old enough, Jim Mora's coaching staff would often develop talent that went elsewhere, sometimes the A-T-L, and perform great, so I get having players contributing immediately...

And other than 2006 and 2017, when Payton was backed into a corner, did we see rookies employed immediately, and often with great success...

Also, true Kamara has got to catch those passes, but the zip has been declining and it was exposed in a windy Chicago; Kamara on those passes you refer should not be the primary receiver...

It harkens back to the days of Bobby Hebert looking for Dalton Hilliard first because Mora didn't trust Hebert to push the ball downfield; whether it's a Brees' confidence or Payton issue, teams are keying on Kamara now...

Re: USA Today Saints Wire | Saints vs. Bears recap: Everything We Know After Overtime Victory

You guys are need to turn off the TV if you seriously think MT is getting traded.....for what its worth there arent too many defenses out there this season that look like world stoppers. My main issue is DA I really deel like he isn't fit for the job. We are down our 3 starting WRs so I'm reserv8ng a true opinion on the offense until then. Cam might be playing hurt because last week Granderson took some of his snaps. I feel like we need to run more 2TE sets utilizing Ttrautman more and giving Brees a bigger target instead of 5ft8 WR. Trautmam and Baun NOT getting playing time....just to start them next year and wonder why they are a step behind. I can live with targeting Trautman over TommyLeeLewis. Anzalone looks a step to slow for me personally and DD has been off this year as well its like everyone has regressed on defense NOT one person is pöayong better. I would love to see more Malcolm Roach. Im convinced DA doesnt know his Personnel and MAYBE JUST MAYBE AARON GLEN should go as well, jusz saying

I can grust none of yall opinion on Marcus Williams because yall are the same ones that said Roman Harper was better than Malcolm Jenkins and we see how their respective careers turned out when they left. We havent a consistent DB here since Jabari Greer. Its scheme and coaching im telling you. DA doesnt play to his players strength we run press man coverage ALL DAY and our corners gove up a big play everytime in that coverage. At what point do you adjust for the players to be able to make plays?
