Question about Saints losing to backup/rookie Qb’s

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; It's simple. Rookies are Payton's Kryptonite! He's going down every time unfortunately....

How much time you got?

Aviation is my forte' & background and I've flown in horrendous conditions during the Afghanistan war. Dropping down to 150 knots in a F-16 fighter is no picnic … challenging but no fun at all. As for storm chasing? You want to be seated in a Lockheed WC-130J that's for sure .

Born and raised in South Central Louisiana but absolutely despise cold weather whether it's flying in or watching a game in the cheap seats.

You do what you have to do though .

Credit Philly def coordinator Jim Schwartz for finding a weakness and exposing it.

I'm anxious to see how our defense responds against against an elite Chiefs offense that can score points in a hurry.
K, that game was there for the winning. How, I have no idea, lol, but it was.

The defense failed to take advantage of their opportunities.

The offense failed to take advantage of their opportunities.

Special Teams failed also.

I could hyperanalyze each individual, and each snap, but doing so gives me a headache, lol, so I’ll leave that to the rest of you all who truly enjoy that level of focus. I’m more of a big picture person.

But you are spot on correct in that I’m anxious to see the defensive response. Was the Philly run game an anomaly? Yes, I do give credit to their coaching, but most importantly I give credit to their athletes, they made the plays, and won the 1v1’s when it counted most.

Ok, I lied. It was only 16 inches. Not a legit 2 feet. It just seemed that way while plowing.

However, they did have 120 yards after catch. We had only 113 on eleven more completions. Those numbers are not indicative of having "lit someone up".

Our playing from behind the entire game put a ton of pressure on the defense. It created over-pursuit (we blitzed 12 times!) which resulted in those big plays on the ground. 40% of Hurts' rushing yards came on four scrambles. He had 14 other carries for the remainder.

By the way, Miles Sanders had over 71% of his 115 yards on one play. He only averaged 2.4 YPC on the other 13.

Hill's (and Payton's) inability to generate any offense in the first half is what allowed the Eagles' ground game to shred our tiring defense early on. Mistakes just compounded the problem. A few big plays, a bad interception, a bad fumble, and two missed FG's is what lit us up.
If you were trying to answer my first question in as many words as possible; congratulations, you answered in spades.

It is really amazing that you are so willing to pass off this loss entirely on the poor performance of the offense and specifically Hill and be willing to overlook the equally, if not more, crappy performance of the D. Yet another rookie QB kicks the Saints ass (something you will STILL argue against) and you are going to harp on Hill not reading the D when he’s dodging D linemen left and right. Nice.

Of course the defense is at fault, as well. But is it because the opposing QB was a rookie in his first start and special?

Sorry, don't buy that.

Oh, and you will come to learn one day that I am amazing.

Re: Question about Saints losing to backup/rookie Qb’s

Saints D had averaged Allowing like 9 points a game against opponents over their previous 5 including games against Tampa and Atlanta. The D for the Saints gave up much more than that in this game against a rookie with a struggling O. It was not because their O struggled and put them in bad position.
