I will probably watch some of these games just to check out the competition. It's hard for me to watch football because of the sloppy play and lopsided officiating. I am fairly tightly wound and seeing that upsets me to no end. I can't help it. I take medicines to keep me relaxed but one bad call sends my blood pressure up.

I usually mute the game and listen to my music. It's the officiating that is the problem with the NFL and they won't work on the problem because they are getting their desired results. Big market teams are favored over small market teams. The fix is in. It's not a sport. It's entertainment. Well, I'm not entertained!

Sloppy play? I've been watching NFL football for my entire life. Play is no more sloppy now than it has ever been. The big difference is that every play can be rebroadcast from 12 camera angles on 20 different channels and picked apart. The athletes playing today are so elite that they can make other elite athletes look silly on certain plays.

The same thing with the officiating. There was no replay to show errors. There were no rebroadcasts of games to see mistakes. Officiating today is probably far more accurate than it has ever been because it is being held to a standard higher than ever. I'll assure you that there was far more holding being done in the past. There were single camera angles. No replay. Poor lighting. Poor field conditions.

Like I have said many times in the past, NFL football IS entertainment. That doesn't mean there has to be a fix. NFL football has ALWAYS been entertainment. That's why tickets are sold. Major League Baseball is and always has been entertainment. The same for every professional sport. Their whole premise is for entertainment. That doesn't mean that they are fixed.

I watch every game I possibly can, Saints or other, and am never turned off by style of play or officiating. Sure, I don't like it when a call goes against my Saints, but it surely doesn't affect for my love of the game.

I hope you someday can just enjoy the games for what they are meant to be and not make anything more of them.

As a referee I abhor uneven officiating. I have no respect for bad officiating and what it does to the game. It's the unevenness or lack of consistency that drives me nuts! Guido, you say it's entertainment like WWE. I'm not arguing the point. I bought into your perspective once I listened to your valid points. It's not a game anymore and my heart tells me not to get involved where someone else determines the outcome of what I expected to be fair play in the past.

The fix might not be in but It's definitely tilted that way thanks to Roger Godhell. Before he came into office the NFL was well respected and earned the respect of it's viewers who are now leaving in droves. Now a large part of the established fan base is checking out. I'll agree with you again that the NFL is not suffering from a loss of fans. They are currently trying to go world wide. When you are a global identity you can do what you want.

I'm not arguing with you. As I referenced earlier I take mood elevators, anti depressants, and anxiety medication to stay on an even keel. When I watch the NFL I see poor officiating that I've seen it get worse over the years.

Why won't we get professional referees? Because then Godhell couldn't control the predetermined outcome. I try to be a happy person but there are just somethings I can't look past such as poor officiating and bullies. The NFL has both. Yeah, I'm looking at you Roger! Once again, I'm not being argumentative. I'm just stating how I feel about the quality of todays NFL.

Edit: I'm watching more college ball where the refs don't control the outcome. College still plays "real football" and it's fun to watch.

No, Rugs. I have never said it is entertainment like WWE. Far from it. Professional wrestling has always been scripted. Fine music is entertainment, as is midget porn. I wouldn't lump those together.

But, the NFL is as much of a game today as it has ever been. Different via rules changes, different via talent levels, but still made up with players and coaches that get paid for winning. Still as much of a game as ever. I don't care for tinfoil hats as they feel rough on my bald head. If the game was as orchestrated as you believe I will assure you that years ago someone would have made a fortune selling that inside story. You cannot pull off something approaching game fixing, especially with gambling involved, without some sort of inquiry. How many NFL officials have been fired over the years? There have been many. If any fixing was going on why didn't any of them go public? Because there is no fixing.

There is corruption throughout major college sports, especially football. Real football is played at both levels. Once again, if refs on any level intentionally affected game's outcomes it would be exposed. You cannot keep all of the thousands of people involved in the games quiet.

Rugby Saint,

I deal with anxiety myself so I feel for you. I have to admit that I have to check myself in terms of much I can get emotionally invested as much for my mental health as for anything.

I will try to catch myself and have learned to do this after this series of incredibly disappointing finishes the last few seasons due to bad officiating and bad luck and yes, just playing flat or poor play calling and execution.

I love the Saints dearly and appreciate the rollercoaster that is the NFL season and love the rush of adrenaline I get when the Saints do defeat an opponent but even when the Saints win in thrilling fashion it is important for me to try to keep things in their proper perspective...win or lose.

The losses seem almost insurmountable(especially in the amplified atmosphere of the NFL post season) but keeping a thrilling W or a soul crushing loss in it's proper context has surely helped me to cope.

All the best to you and my wish is that the Saints lift you more than they upset you.

I don't care what the results are for the games on Saturday! We will get who we get and that's that!

This is so true! The playoffs are not a reflection of any team's season. Wipe the slate clean and start over.
