How much do you guys really buy into the fact that we may still draft Leinart?

(Not being snide, just wanting to know b/c I keep getting that queasy feeling I'm gonna end up throwing something at the TV on draft day instead of celebrating)

I haven't looked at trading D. Smith that way, but me too!

Ditto Poppa, but I wouldn't call it queasy more like power hurling.

I think Payton may be trying to get as many untainted minds as he can. The draft is important, but I think doubly so for new coaches. Imagine moving into a house with someones stuff already in it. You like you make it yours as much as possible. I wouldn't like trading Smith away though. Unless they're eyeing a safty in the second round, but I wouldn't even wanna chance throwing a rookie into a starting position if you don't have too. And I pray that Mangold is availible at 34. This shuffling guys around worries me a bit. But if they could sqeeze two picks out of the Jets, I'd love for them to pick up a corner in the second.

If & only if we trade Dwight Smith, I like Ko Simpson from South Carolina at safety in the second round.

Excellent point. And if Payton deems Smith expendable because of his need to get his own players, hen I would trust him. Let's let him get his own grocieries before he makes us dinner. All I would ask is that we get something good in exchange for Smith.

I don't really think that trading Dwight Smith would be the best thing for this team in a playmaking sense. However, if this guy isn't going to be a team player and isn't going to follow what the new coaching staff says (which is what the article made it sound like), then I think the best thing for the team as a whole would be to bring in somebody that Payton feels would be better. I honestly think we should keep him, and it sounds like we're going to, but I have really liked what Payton's done so far, and I think I'm going to trust whatever he does in the next few weeks.

O and about Courtney Watson, I hope that we really do trade him. I would love to get an extra draft pick for this turd. He's been hurt and he's not a very good athlete, but I tried to tell myself that I should continue to give this guy a chance because he had the chance to be a leader on defense, but then he goes and gets a DUI and just seemed to drop off the face of the earth. He was a 2nd round pick, and he hasn't hardly seen the field. Time to trade him, cut him, or whatever, but we just need to move on from this guy.
