this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Si estamos dispuestos a ceder tres primeros y un jugador para llevarse a Seattle, ¿hasta qué punto podríamos llegar en el draft si los cambiamos por selecciones?...

You know what you would be getting in Russell Wilson. There is no way to know if those picks would result in anything as worthy.

In fairness, you cant claim you know what you are getting in Wilson. How many Jason Byrd or Coby Fleener or A Peterson type players have resulted in poor signings for the Saints and countless other teams? For every Brees or Brady that was signed as a FA QB that worked out there are the Walshes, Tebows, Castles, Keenum etc that didn’t. Just like your crapshoot idea, you have know way of knowing “exactly” (your word) how Wilson will pan out.

Bro. You can't compare any of those names with Russell Wilson. We're not talking about one year wonders or running backs in decline. We're talking Elite QB vs Disowned QB with a history of poor choices on and off the field.

Who would you expect to perform better?

Maybe so. But my point is giving up three plus picks/players for Wilson and seeing him not live up to what he’s done before is similar to signing the guys I mentioned for no picks and having them not live up to what they’ve done before. If three picks and Thomas or an O lineman is what it takes to get him then who is going to block/catch for him? He had Metcalf and more solid receivers to throw to last year in Seattle. Why would he do better with what the saints have now minus three years of first round picks?

I agree with this 100%. If we give up Ram or even Armstead for him he would be in the same situation he’s trying to get out of. He’s also over 30 and mobile. 3 years ago maybe but for all we know Winston could wind up being comparable. Have a feeling Thomas is gone come draft day anyway.

That's a valid point. I guess Wilson could come in and be the opposite of who's he's been his entire life. It's probably more likely that Winston will continue to be the boom/bust player he's been.

As far as players go, look I'm not concerned about losing 2 key people OR picks if we bring Wilson in. Look at what he's accomplished in Seattle with a porous line and basically one WR.

As with any signing you must weigh the risk and for me Russel Wilson is worth whatever we lose compared to what we gain over the next 6-7 years.

That is distinction without difference as the premise stands for all players and teams year over year including our own players. As much is known about next year Wilson as next year Brees or Peat.

Fair enough about the regression. And I wouldn’t expect any regression from Wilson if obtained. However, if three picks and Thomas or Ram are used to get him, I worry about who he throws too and/or blocks for him. Wilson had two receivers in Metcalf and Locket that were better than anything the saints had last year and he was unhappy. Having less targets couldn’t help out.
