That UDFA DT looks promising as well.
Fully understand that logic wrt the recent acquisitions who’ve never played a down for the Saints, and agree with that optimism. But, when Brown wasn’t in the rotation/lineup, the run defense took a step backwards, significantly from my view. Week’s 14, 15, & 16 were the 3 regular season games Brown didn’t appear in last year. And the normally super stout run defense surrendered 246, 179, and 90 yards respectively. 246, and then 179? That constitutes “doing a very nice job at it”? 90 yards from Minnesota and D.Cook? Yeah, it’s hard to shut him down, but that was an odd game in which the Saints rushed the ball 45 times for over 250 yards (combined) and scored 52 points, A.Kamara having six rushing TD’s. D.Cook only touched the ball 15 times, and still had almost a 5 ypc average.

Fully understand, and agree with, an argument that says team defense stats shouldn’t be assigned to one or two players alone, and also the argument that a lot of things were different for that defensive line other than just Brown/Rankins being replaced with Tuttle/Roach.

But I just didn’t see what you saw out of Tuttle or Roach last season, doubly so for when they “rose up the depth charts”.

246?

179?

Back to Back games?

Oooofff

Josiah Bronson - DT … UDFA 6'3 305 lbs.

Another unpolished gem worth developing perhaps?

Sure, a three technique tackle that is quick, agile, flows naturally to the ball carrier, has good hands. Great upside! And..., iirc, didn’t Malcolm Brown get drafted by the Patriots from Univ of Texas largely as a three technique tackle?

lol..., You trolling me? Trying to get me excited? He would be a good one off replacement, if he develops well, but is not an immediate starter. That being said, I have a very difficult time trying to see the large picture Dennis Allen is trying to paint. That inability keeps me on the sidelines more often than not, when it comes to player/pos’n analysis.

Bottom line, it’s very easy to hyper-analyze past productivity..., it’s VERY difficult to forecast future productivity. lol, I wish I was better in that category, sadly I’m not.

While we are on the subject of DT's …

Remember Jalen Dalton from last season? Big (6'6 300) young guy, tore his tricep at camp. Per Nick Underhill, he's back healthy and will compete against Roach.

Undrafted (as was Roach) out of North Carolina, however he was showing promise. I think we'll be just fine on that D line. Quite a few dogs.

X factor … Ryan Nielsen .

Werner could potentially help the run defense as well if his highlights are anything to go by.

Imagine a (healthy) Nascar Package with
Davenport
Onyemata or Turner
Kpassagnon
Jordan

We can throw a lot at a QB!

Actually I'd leave Onyemata in at DT and run the Nascar package of

Jordan or Turner, Onyemata, Davenport, Granderson...

That's what I was going to say. All of that length and athleticism could cause some real problems.

If Turner can progress to play 50% of the snaps this year (first rounder should start Gm1), it's possible Kpassagnon doesn't make the roster, or is traded...

6'7" with 35" arms. And speed. I don't see how he doesn't improve our rush, especially on passing downs.
