Observations from the Saints' Win over the Patriots

Just what the doctor ordered in a good team win. The blocked punt was a good omen. Still, the team is work in progress. We miss MT as WRs couldn't get good separation for the most part. Can't really fault the OL today.

Winston still sucks. Lol. I hope he improves. If not, we're gonna lose more games than win.

Rosas is ****ty. Lol

Defense was great! But NE isn't exactly an offensive powerhouse.

Special teams -> very good.
Defense - > extremely good.

Offense - > Kamara is Kamara but everything else is a work in progress.

Long season though. Nice win.

On to a home game and the Giants!

The Jameis throw to Callaway. I could see Payton saying great play Jameis don’t ever F’n do it again, lol. Like Lou said to Hayes

Pray for Lutz to be back next week ...

Either way, I'd cut Rosas on Monday. He's holding up a roster spot.

Saints need to trade for a WR or TE.

If you want to see post-season, yep yep.

No guarantees when we'll get Mike back.

If the defense can stay at this level from here on out, we can sleepwalk to 10 wins.

Lattimore came to play this year. Secondary in general was very good.

Offense is just going to be a roller coaster ride all season. I’m excited about a WR trio of MT, Stills and Callaway but there’s no telling if that will help our offense be more consistent.

Let’s not forget Harris. He’s been our best option after 3 games.

No faith in Sprainquan Smith to show his worth this season?

Hey, I understand.

Honestly, he’s already an afterthought. I didn’t even think about his involvement.

"Short of one half against Carolina, this defense has been dominant through three games. Remember, they’re doing this without guys like Kwon Alexander, David Onyemata and Marcus Davenport".

Before it's all said and done, this 2021 defense could become special. I've been impressed in all three games thus far.

Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl.
Joe Flacco won a Super Bowl.
Eli Manning won two Super Bowls.

We can win it with Jameis Winston. The defense just has to keep trending upwards.

Re: Observations from the Saints' Win over the Patriots

Problem is if we don't get some Offense going the Defense is staying on the field too long and wearing down.

Re: Observations from the Saints' Win over the Patriots

Didn't watch the end of the game. Any truth to reports that Mac Jones was butt hurt and didn't even exhibit good sportmanship and congratulate the winning team's QB as they normally always do on the field ?

BakoSaint 09-26-2021 09:39 PM

Re: Observations from the Saints' Win over the Patriots

If we don't have a kicker and our receivers struggle to get separation, maybe we should not entirely discourage our QB from throwing jump balls in the back of the endzone and air punts. I mean, you don't get points for taking a sack, throwing it away, or kicking it way outside the uprights. So if you aren't going to run on 4th and long or punt in the red zone, throwing it into the endzone on 3rd or 4th down may be the best option. Its all situational, but if Winston does not throw that pass, we attempt a field goal that 50/50 Rojas misses. I would rather 50/50 of 6 points than 50/50 of 3 points. Either way the defense gets the ball around the 20 if it doesnt work out.

Sooner or later we are going to be put in a position where Winston is going to have to put it all on his shoulders. I’m not seeing it. Hill wouldn’t do any better.

Any idea at all when we might see Thomas?
I also totally forgot Smith was on the team. I guess that’s something to look forward to. For a game or two anyway.
Our D line is sick and it’s nice to see Jordan producing. When Onyamata gets back offenses are in deep doodoo. Rez has a point about Eli and company.

Re: Observations from the Saints' Win over the Patriots

-Defense is legit.
-Harris is the best WR currently playing on the team. Gets open. Catches the ball.
-Throckmorton is a legit NFL guard.
-Watched Peat due to the criticism. Criticism legit.
-Winston struggles to read defenses and release the ball. Has no concept of throwing it away.
-New kicker wanted if Lutz isn't ready.

Peat was dreadful in pass blocking and almost as bad in run blocking, so pretty much a normal performance for him.

K Major has beaten that drum for a while; Peat has never been happy here except when he signed his contract, but was unhappy later when he realized he was bound here...

The bad news - since Loomis created all this cap space for this year, rolling the fiscal deficit onto future generations, he can't be cut Pre/Post 6/1 without a big hit...

Best case scenario - a post 6/1/2022 trade would be $4.6MIL in Dead Money and $10.85MIL in savings; so we'd likely see something where Peat and a R7 for a R5...

Ah, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Maybe Mac is a sore loser?

From what I read, it was more of Bill B escorting his players to the locker room ... he was never a "chatty patty" type coach after games anyway. Win, lose or draw.

I thought it was a good gesture by Jameis to go over and have a word with Mac, shake his hand afterwards. You don't need to be best buddies, but sportsmanship goes a long way.

The game is over, accept the L and move on ;).

Looked to me like Jones was less butt hurt and more pissed about throwing that 3rd pick. He was being consoled on the sideline as the game was ending. I'm sure the kid figures he let his team down. Our D lit 'em up pretty good yesterday.

It was nice to have CJ back on the field. Defense looks good out there and we came out with a win on the road.

Offensively, well, umm... we didn't turn the ball over.

Jameis has two INTs so far. That's on pace for 11-12 for the year. That's an improvement, neaux?

Re: Observations from the Saints' Win over the Patriots

I'm more than happy with playing strong defense, consistently running the football, and limiting turnovers. It's a great recipe for success especially in the post season.

My only concern right now is when we do need to get in a shoot out to win a football game, can we do it? I'm looking forward to having one of those types of game.
