OBJ to Saints... anyway?

We tried to trade for him… There’s no doubt we’ll be putting in a waiver claim. We’re pretty low in the order though so it’ll be hard to land him.

We don’t have a #1 or legit 2 WR.

Why not.

Well from what I’ve heard, if a crappy teams put in a waiver, he won’t play. He’s only gonna play for a contender and to be the undisputed no. 1 receiver. So when the smokes clears it should be us and vegas.

The Browns are idiots. They could’ve done this a week ago and traded him for decent value.

Facts.

The Browns are good because they built a team through draft only. A couple of free agency pick-ups here and there, otherwise the front office of the Browns is pretty sad. No wonder they couldn't get a trade done.

Yep.

I don't see him getting past teams like KC, Packers or Las Vegas. Especially with the QB's they have vs playing with a back up/3rd stringer.

Re: OBJ to Saints... anyway?

If OBJ was strictly a vet minimum player I'd say sure he's worth the risk and if he causes issues then he's gone without any financial harm for the Saints. Committing any real money to this guy scares me though - unless OBJ (and his dad) suddenly grow up and become team players.

Well K, in GB he’ll be second fiddle to Adams with a Rodgers that still might leave. KC has Hill and Kelce with a god awful defense that couldn’t stop a kid on a bike, so he’ll have that. Vegas has an interim coach so lord only knows how that goes and scandals. At least here yea he’ll have Siemian or Taysom but he’ll have Sean and he’ll be home.

That's why I'm not high on the guy personally. I know everyone loves the prospect of him in a Sainta uniform because he's talented and he's LSU alum. But the dude has serious issues. We already have a diva on the team (although he isn't playing right now). Having 2 would be a headache. And OBJ seems less a team player and more a me player.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I think this guy is too much risk for the reward. I could be wrong. I just wish he wasn't so douchy.

Sean Payton loves that stuff though. He loves having players who others would deem headcases. Somehow he connects with them.

I would rather see him in a Saint's uniform than see him line up against us. Tell him to reject any waiver claim unless it's the Saints.

Well, it looks like we may not know anything about OBJ until Monday after 4:00 PM. Teams have until then to place a waiver claim.

Do players have the right to reject waiver claim in NFL? If so, did not realize that. I think in MLB they don't have that right (unless maybe a players has enough service time). I suppose the Lions or Texans of the world, places he likely wouldn't want to go, might potentially claim him?

I don't think so. OBJ has said if claimed by a team that he does not wish to play for he'll just refuse to report.

We need a receiver(s) in the worst way. This defense is good enough. The special teams unit is good enough. We don't have a #1 or 2. A game-changer. Mike isn't returning this season. This team is hungry and players desperately want a chance for another crack at the postseason and as we know, ANYTHING can happen on Sundays at this level.

Who exactly do you have in mind this late in the season? Do we hope that these receivers get better with Trevor at the helm? Titans, Cowboys, Buffalo, Bucs 2.0 are real problems & we need all the extra ammo we can get against those teams.

As for Odell goes, I think people on the outside looking in have no idea how strong the locker room & culture is in New Orleans. Ask Emmanuel Sanders, Trey Hendrickson, or Jack Rabbit.

If we are lucky enough (I don't think we will though) to land OBJ, the first sign of nonsense he'd be on the first train smoking.

I graduated from LSU but could care less where he went to college. We need ballers at WR in the worst way.

I know K. His nonsense is just annoying to me.

Look, if he signs, I won't *****. I hope he plays well and gets his head straight. But dude, if he starts his BS and is a complete distraction, starts trashing player or coaches, does his little flip flop temper tantrums, I hope he's shown the door. Quickly. I hate players like that. Especially on my beloved team.

Not quite sure who will take a chance on him. He’s played for two teams and both pretty much made him out to be a cancer. We’ve come this far without him, why not let the season play out?

They restructured his contract by converting most of it to a signing bonus before releasing him so it is just above league minimum. Pretty much anyone can afford him with a restructure or two of their own.

Re: OBJ to Saints... anyway?

Ok so now claiming OBJ will come with a 1yr/$7.25 mil contract. We won’t be able to claim him as we would need the cap space first… can’t claim him and then re-work contracts to fit him in.

However, this also greatly increases the chances he goes unclaimed which would work in our favor.

This is different than was reported earlier placing the base salary lower. He may then make it through waivers.

Now I hear this morning that the cap hit for the remainder of OBJ's restructured contract would only be $2.5M. A quick restructure of Thomas' or Lutz's contracts would easily raise that.

OBJ still gets a load of money from Cleveland.
I don't know if he goes on the waiver wire first or he's just a free agent.
I still think it's a temp fix. We won't be able to support his salary next season. SP would make him sit bench and practice until maybe he would appear in playoffs.

So how did the Rams sign him if they are that low on the waiver wire?

Re: OBJ to Saints... anyway?

Sean usually rewards player loyalty; Winston and Thomas are done for the season and yet still haven't been moved to Reserve, Injured...

That said, it's telling the Saints haven't just gone ahead with the obvious IR designation and promoted PS players to those two spots...

Waiting till the last possible moment to explore all options, even late-developing ones seems like the play here...

Have no doubt among those possible moves is a waiver claim for Odell Beckham Jr...

Definitely don't have a WRx that can win matchup; Callaway needs to turn in that No. 1 jersey or turn in better performances...

But with Harris and Stills, that's a very good rotation at the WRz position...
