Look around the teams that are still standing ...

Bills (Diggs, Beasley, Sanders, Knox)
Chiefs (Tyreek, Hardeman, Kelce, Pringle)
Bengals (Chase, Higgins, Boyd, Uzomah)

Tampa, GB, Niners (we all know who the playmakers are in the NFC) etc.

All of these teams have legit #1,2, #3 WRs, and TEs across the board.

In order to compete (deep playoff run), you need playmakers, route runners, game-changers. Discount Mike, we have none.

Saints must upgrade (min 2/draft and FA) the WR corp this off-season.

Look no further than our own history when Sean Payton’s offense was really clicking: Colston, Henderson, Meachem, Moore, Shockey, Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas. That was some crazy pass-catching depth.

We spent so long trying to rebuild our abysmal defense that our cupboard became pretty bare on offense.

Do what the Bengals did in 2021.

Draft a STUD WR (Chase), bring in a vet O lineman & also draft another interior lineman in the mid-rounds (Carmann).

Copy cat league

The jury is still out on Cesar Ruiz though.

Ruiz was drafted to be a piece of the offensive line, not the linchpin. He wasn't meant to be the only one playing 100% of the snaps for 17 games. Sure he looked like crap at times, but he was surrounded by crap for most of this season.

Blah, blah. Excuses.

He’s graded poorly throughout the season and last year as well. Coaches don’t care that he under performed on the interior with back ups. This isn’t JV football, find a way.

Far too many times he’s been overwhelmed or beaten at the point of attack.

Improve in the trenches. Period.

Have you wondered why, if the coaches were so aware of his underperforming, that they never replaced him during the season? Not even for a single snap? He was in there for 100% of all offensive snaps in all 17 games.

I'm not saying Ruiz hasn't looked like crap, but consider the circumstances. We all know the offensive line is a unit that has been described as only as strong as its weakest link. Looking back at Ruiz's first season in 2020 there was essentially no preseason work and most of the regular season was virtual except for gameday. Move to 2021 and only three of the 17 games had four of the five starters active at the same time. Five games of the 17 had three. None had all five.

The coaches have to see something in him or he wouldn't be in there, right? That's the one thing that keeps me hoping there's promise.

I can agree 100% about improving the trenches. I think Payton addresses this quickly. At least I'm hoping so. Kind of crazy to think we would even have to be discussing this with Payton at the helm. O-line, WR, TE are pretty high on the priority list. But K if that S falls in out lap on draft day I'm really hoping Payton pulls the trigger.

Just because you have perfect attendance (100% offensive snaps) in class, doesn't mean you are a good student.

The Saints coaches don't need 3-5 years to evaluate a quality starter on the O line. CSP knows exactly what he has within the first two seasons & Ruiz won't be any different.

Hopefully, he turns into a decent backup. The guy was simply a reach in the first round.
