My thinking is that Houston might not be able to get the picks that were on the table last year, and teams might low ball them. The management might want to take the low ball offer, but might also fear that trading Watson for a low ball offer after passing on higher offers last year will hurt their reputation. If they can’t keep Watson, can’t take less that two first rounders for him, and can’t get two first rounders for him, the only remaining option is to trade him for a player who they can pass off to fans as being worth two first rounders, but get for less due to character or injury concerns. Thomas could be a good match in that sense.

I want to get rid of Thomas because I worry he has Terrelle Pryors ankle, a young Antonio Browns attitude, and the combination of his apathy and injury will make rehab even less likely. I hope he ends up with a division rival on a long term deal.

New York Giants 2022 Salary Cap

The Giants certainly have the ability to open up enough cap to take on his contract ($35M - 2022) using base salary and roster bonus conversions, but he carries a $51 million cap hit in dead money to the Texans. It's less damaging to the Texans to leave him on the roster.

Not to mention what Chris pointed out about his having the no trade clause. He'll have to okay any deal if offered up.

If the Giants are seriously interested in Brian Flores (Brooklyn guy) as their next HC ...

Better believe Watson would be interested in playing there.

This is such a real possibility. The Giants have two top 10 picks in the draft so they could trade one of them along with a 2023 1st and still have a top 10 pick this year. Makes too much sense.

The top priority this off season needs to be figure out who will be QB1. I’m a fan of Winston and would like to see what he could do with better WRs but I think it’s too big a risk for this to be our plan A. The recovery timeline has him coming back after the season starts. That would mean no training camp or reps and we don’t know how he’ll be post injury. I like bringing him back as a backup but I would like them to do whatever it takes to get Wilson and make a run with him and this defense.

If we can’t bring in a top QB then I think it might be time to start letting guys go and try to get under the cap and rebuild.

It’s all comes down to the most important position on the field. As much as I like this defense I don’t like the idea of restructuring contracts and bringing everyone back while rolling the dice on a QB coming off a major injury who most likely won’t even be ready to start the season.

Keep in mind Winston appears to be well ahead of the normal recovery timeline. It's actually pretty incredible.

I think Jameis will be good to go by training camp. An ACL isn’t what it used to be.

I would love to see a healthy J Winston come back, but you have to take a look at your options.

I'm not 100% sold on Winston.

Unless the Saints have a realistic chance of signing Wilson, I would go with Hill and Siemian, work on the O-line, get some WR's and another RB if Ingram walks.
