He’s tied for second in receiving TDs on the team.

I don't want to see that but it would be one way to save money this off season. It seems like we always cut good players to save money.

Or they need players for special teams since several have gone to injury. But, I believe we seldom cut players to save money. We sometimes do not re-sign a player that is wanting more money than they feel they are worth. There's a difference.

When the covid pandemic caught up to the Saints they weren't allowed to follow the usual salary cap increase accounting method we've followed lately. I believe that you're we lost a lot of valuable talent because we couldn't afford to keep them. Which is my point. We lose players that we can't afford to keep and quite often it's because of the never ending contract extensions.

Yes, the COVID cap hit everyone hard. But, we had the space to sign each of those players that left so it wasn't that we couldn't afford them, but that we decided we didn't want to keep them for that price. That's what I was trying to stress. It's like that $50,000 car that you can afford, but you know you don't need because the $35,000 one, although not as fancy, allows you to have that extra budget to use in some other way ... like a trip to Europe.

In Free Agency, give me the LSU kid > Chark.

In the draft, I'd prefer a slot guy like Josh Downs. I understand he's a smaller WR but he just seems to get open.

I also like Ole Miss kid Jonathan Mingo. Big, plays like a dawg to me & he's tough/physical. The knock I see is that he didn't run away from many in college.

I like Mingo too 3rd round grade
Bryce Ford Wheaton 4th
Do either of the Tennessee receivers fall past round 2? Tillman or Hyatt could be nice additions.

Bump ...

Marquez Calloway to Denver.

In an EXTREMELY difficult AFC division, Sean P is going to learn the hard way by signing avg/below-average WRs.

Meanwhile, we still have Trequan .

I wonder what Sean will give us for Tre' Quann? I hope we draft his replacement next month and part ways next year. He is a good blocker and possibly a good #4 or #5 WR.

SP had Drew Brees to make his receivers look better. Cunningham may not have the same influence with his receivers in Denver.

Re: 2022 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

I find it interesting that the age of the Saints roster is brought up as an argument by some detractors. The average age of the Saints roster is 27.17 years. The league average is 26.54 years of age. 31 of the 32 teams have an average age of greater than 26 years, with only one team, the Rams, averaging under 26 years of age (25.91). Let's also not forget that those Rams finished with the 5th worst record in the league this past season.

Can we try him at guard then ?.

At some point, Peat WILL go down with an injury.

SF76 suggested drafting a WR on Day 1 …

Maybe he's on to something.

MT is about a month away from taking his physical (big signing bonus is due if he passes) & another substantial check.

I'm glad we are having joint practice with the Chargers. It seems to wind up the intensity at training camp and bring the focus together playing against someone other than your team mates.

Was he not healthy and ready to go last season? He came out and balled right away. Completely healthy. He then suffered a totally unrelated injury similar to those suffered by both Ruiz and Penning.

Not just any WR. I said if Quentin Johnston falls to 20 we should trade up.

RE Michael Thomas, he's barely played football the last couple years. I'm OK with coach working him back slowly.

I wonder if Quentin is even on the Saint's draft board?

I do know the Packers & Chicago are in dire need of a top-quality WR in Rd1.

That's a question that can be asked about any player that steps foot on an NFL field. As they say, the NFL is a 100% injury sport. It's not IF a player is going to suffer an injury it is WHEN. Thomas has suffered two serious injuries in his career. He played in no less than 15 games each of the previous four seasons. He may go ten years without another injury or get injured on another freak play on the first snap.

Sadly, it's a young man's game. When we age we heal slower, hurt more, and have old lingering injuries that haunt our comebacks. I know, I've had several comebacks that were limited by injury. Things like joints are weaker. Michael Thomas' game conditioning could be called into question having played so little in the last three years.

I've been successful coming back from injury, but I was rarely a starter at that point, and was more of a role player toward the end before one of my previous injuries shut me down completely. Of course, I was 60, so....

We need MT to be fully healthy and I hope he can but I'm not enthusiastic just yet.

Freak injuries occur but they happen more often to players who aren't ready for contact. MT might be ready before TC. Fingers crossed.:beatnik:

One thing going for Thomas is that his body hasn't taken the wear and tear of a normal seven years of continual play. Beyond the two lower extremity injuries the rest of his body should be as fresh as could be.
