I heard Bigfoot made a surprise appearance in full contact drills this week yet couldn’t cover Thomas as he let up a 42 yard TD on a post route. After the play Bigfoot ran off into the surrounding woods of Wisconsin !

This makes sense. No reason to have Lutz out there until the regular season starts.

I never saw Ozigbo as a good RB option. He’s like a Trequan Smith of RBs.

He can catch but isn't consistent as a blocker or runner.

Ian Book is probably in the next group of cuts, possibly Baun as well.

What we have, three more to get to 80 by Tuesday? And then the big cut to 53 on the 30th. Definitely don't see Book making that one. You're right in that we'll most likely keep two QB's on the 53 (Winston and Dalton) with Hill as the emergency. Book could make the practice squad since I can't see him picked up off waivers at that point. You never know though.

If Book cannot be developed, then it doesn't make sense to waste a spot on the practice squad for him. It would be smarter to drag the league cuts to find a QB3 that could be developed instead.

Agree completely. I'm thinking they're just keeping him through this next week just to rest our two keepers.

I feel like there is a significant chance that Michael Thomas may never play again, or may never significantly contribute. But at the same time I think the way we manage our salary cap it may make sense on short term thinking to keep restructuring his contract over and over to push the bill down the road. So he we may pay out every last dollar on his contract and possibly more for nothing. That is the problem with Loomis-nomics. When we get caught in a bad contract there is no way to get out and the contract effectively becomes guaranteed for the duration because everything depends on restructuring all the big contracts every year and that means never getting out of a big contract. Look maybe Thomas does recover, maybe the contract becomes a bargain, but this way of managing our cap is unsustainable because eventually we will get into bad big contracts and we need the option of getting out of long term deals not locking them in.

MT won’t miss the start of the season and will immediately be a major contributor for this team.

Perhaps we are better attuned to reality.

The reports didn’t really give me a reason to think otherwise. The regular season doesn’t start for 3 weeks. The Saints could let him rest the “little hamstring issue” just to be safe if they want to. If they reported a tear I’d be a little more worried, but I don’t see a reason to hit the panic button right now. So yeah, he’ll start week 1 in my opinion.

Wouldn't see the need. The guy is about as cool and laid back as can be except for once he gets on the field and becomes the beast that he is.

I pray this is just an over abundance of caution and not the shape of the season to come. I'm pulling for him to blow up this season to silence the critics. But I'm a pragmatist. WR's with hammy issues tend to battle them long into the season.

I don’t think him blowing up is going to silence his critics leilung. Mostly because the critiques of him aren’t about his onfield production. They are more about his ghosting the team and screwing over Payton the last year he coached for the Saints It’s been about his attitude and actions, not his play. That’s my take.

I didn't sound to me like it was anything Thomas was "battling". All Allen mentioned was he was excluded from practice because of a "little bit of a hamstring". He was one of about a dozen players that didn't practice for whatever reasons. One thing I've noticed this training camp is how much care and patience is being given to the most minor of issues. Also this whole "ramping up" process mentioned over and over again. I have a feeling this all stems back to the new Director of Sports Science, Dr. Matt Rhea. It sounds like they are addressing things before they can become issues and being smart about reintroducing the players back into practice.

It makes sense, especially with the key players and in the preseason. Just like it makes sense holding all key players out of these meaningless preseason games.

I agree completely. Thus my "haters gonna hate" take. It's all personal and really has nothing to do with his play. Some people simply dislike Thomas for some reason and there's nothing he or anyone else can do to change that.

I can't understand it myself. He is such a nice, unassuming young man. As far away from being a diva as they come.

What price? It surely doesn't bother him that some people cannot let something trivial go. Nor should it. I mean who cares? Why should it bother you so? Do you hold onto everything like this?

No arguments here.

Quick observation over the last 2 pre-season games: Book seems to put his WRs in bad spot (Stinch & Vilma mentioned it in post-game) with his passes. I mean really dangerous throws (exposing players' knees), fumbling under center, or running for his life.

PS is his ceiling.

The price of having people criticize him. The price of having his reputation as one of the greatest WRs ever tarnished. It’s a topic of conversation. Like what people think their favorite movie is or a restaurant.
I have critiques of Sean Payton and I have critiques of Drew Brees. Guess what?…I don’t hate them. Nor do I hate Michael Thomas.
You seem to have some psychological issue about you that makes it impossible for you to accept that other people have different opinions than yours without you labeling them as “haters” or bragging about how in the know you are. Especially about Thomas. You are very antagonistic to other users.
