CSP is in reset/recharge mode. A LOT happened in 2021.

Mike McCarthy's seat is very hot. If he does not get it done in 2022, you can better believe Jerrah Jones has Sean P on speed dial.

The man is only 58 years young & still innovative as an HC.

His coaching days are hardly over. Brace yourself for him to be wearing another team's colors in a year or two.

What does he have to gain personally from coaching again? You know it is a 120 hour a week job. He can still get his football fix through broadcasting. I once again mention Bill Cowher as a comparison. That man lived and breathed football and stepped cleanly away from coaching at eight years younger than Payton is now. Watch Payton's whole conference again. He looked so at ease and happy.

Don't need to re-watch it AG.

Sean P isn't done coaching. I know it hurts YOU that he decided to take the exit right after 14+ years in New Orleans but he's hardly done in the NFL.

I remember Parcells being "done" with coaching too. Took a 2-year "hiatus", then came back & eventually took Patriots to the Super Bowl.

It is what it is.

The man deserves to retire. Last year was tough on him and the team. We would have fallen apart without Sean Payton's leadership leading us in the dark ages of 2021. I've got an autographed copy of his book HOME TEAM which is open on my book shelf. It will stay open and proud looking down from my Saints shrine.

I certainly don't fault Payton for leaving. Can you imagine having to prepare to play against other teams AND the league? He knows that he's fighting a losing battle and I doubt that he'll ever be a head coach in the NFL again unless Goodell retires.

On another note, it would be a bitter pill to swallow to see him on the sidelines in another team's gear.

Re: Payton to take a year off?

There have been so many posts here in the last day or so, and we thought it was going to be another dull off-season.
It may have been posted before but there were most likely a lot of underlying issues that Sean was dealing with.
1. The most obvious Drew retiring.
2. The Jon Gruden Witchunt, remember Sean & Jon go way back
3. The Suspension and all the Happy Horse$hit from the league
4. Covid was and still is in play
5. Big Tuna telling Sean, ya got to go out on top.
6. Never really liked Crawfish but "Oh" those Beignets.
7. Last but not least Skylene Montgomery (any questions refer to photo)
*In fairness and my opinion Beth is also very attractive..

Re: Payton to take a year off?

He will get the itch for another job, they all do.
By the time camp starts he will be climbing the walls.

If McCarthy gets off to a bad start in Dallas next year he's doomed

Not all of them. John Madden (43), Jimmy Johnson (56) and Bill Cowher (50) are just three that left coaching even younger than Payton (58) is now and never came back. He may very well coach again some day. He said he might consider it. But, Madden, Johnson, and Cowher all satisfied that itch by staying connected to the game via TV. Who knows? Maybe it will be the same for Payton.
