Underhill believes we could see a Co-DC of Nielsen/Richard.

What does it matter, Dennis Allen said he plans to still call defenses...

Make a decision, pick one, and run with it - leave Nielsen as Asst Head Coach, make Richard the DC...

Rumors that Eric Bieniemy is on the outs at KC. Their other coach was hired by the Giants.

Did we dodge a bullet in not hiring him?

Co-defensive coordinators?

Kris Richard kinda did that while with Dallas/Marinelli.

Interesting.

Interesting.

I've heard it said before that if you have 2 coordinators, you don't have one. Even if Dennis Allen is calling the plays, you need someone to be the second in command. But that's just me.

I guess I could see a scenario where Richard focuses on secondary, Nielsen on D line. You're probably asking a lot from two guys who could be solo DCs for many teams today. But hey, if they're set on winning the SB as a group, it's one hell of a group.

And I guess simple economics come into play - if both are compensated as a DC by the owner it might make it more attractive for the both of them as responsibilities are shared.

Re: 2022 New Orleans Saints: Coaching Staff

Simplify the chain of command, make Richard the DC, Allen has stated he's still calling plays, but Richard gets a promotion he's earned...

Besides, Nielsen is already Asst Head Coach, unless that was taken away; that's not a bad badge to have next to your name, ask Dan Campbell...

Re: 2022 New Orleans Saints: Coaching Staff

I’m probably off base but I can’t see Kris Richard doing a “co” anything again. That’s partially the reason why he took a year off from coaching after Dallas.

Everywhere he has coached, he’s made consistent impact.

IMO he’s earned the right to fly solo as DC.

Could TJ Watt actually get better?!?

jeanpierre 02-19-2022 01:24 PM

Re: 2022 New Orleans Saints: Coaching Staff

Aubrey Pleasant sure would be a lot of fun to have on staff, but Kris Richard should be the outright Defensive Coordinator...

Though Allen has stated he still wants to call the plays, he should wean Richard into calling the defenses as well...

Didn't age well for Duncan, unless he was intentionally misled by Bensel...

Look I'm not a huge fan of Duncan but in today's instant news feed they're all just trying to keep up with the most current nuggets in order to remain relevant.

Same feeling here for me. It's hard to start making personnel decisions without a DC onboard.

Saints may have hit a lull in finding interview candidates outside the clubhouse because said candidates realize Saints are just gonna promote in-house...

Liking what I am seeing so far on Burns. Really like the comparison to Nielsen.

I still wonder if we need a new RB coach. If the O-line gets it together then we should be OK. But I'm still worried about returning only last year's shaky offensive line, which was truly offensive.

Don't forget that we were missing various parts of that line all season long. Hopefully we can keep whoever is on the line in there for most of the coming season. That'll mean a lot.

Offensive line is off to the right start with Marrone taking over, but merde is still merde and the Saints need to rebuild that starting line, replace Ruiz and Peat...

I'd also draft Penning to be opposite Ramczyk...

I'd rather see Marcus Williams extended with built-in cap relief, but legit $$$$ he's earned; sign DJ Chark Jr to be our WRz opposite Thomas; and keep our RFAs/ERFAs...

Get some young, mean, Big Nastys in the draft...

I’m all about keeping Williams. The way he bounced back after that Minnesota game says a lot about his mental toughness. Most rookie DB’s would have a tough time recovering from that ****.

Definitely played up to his draft status.

MW is on at least 5 teams radar as we approach Free Agency.

Maybe more.

At worst case we have a second tag that can be used on him. Although, I really think we'll get a deal done with a cap friendly first year and signing bonus.
