Deshaun Watson to Saints?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Some great takes all around from you guys. I can see it being a defining move that's worth the investment. I can also see us staying pat with Jameis and drafting well again after adding a handful of mid tier ...

I can also see us staying pat with Jameis and drafting well again after adding a handful of mid tier FAs.

I'm leaning toward the latter just because that seems to have been the MO all offseason.

Re: Deshaun Watson to Saints?

I'd be fine with the Saints trading away their next 4-5 1st round picks for Watson if he wanted to come to NOLA, and if they could make it work within the cap.

I've never been a huge fan of his even before all the drama, but he is probably a top 5 QB in the league and could solve the problem with the most important position for the next decade.

Allen failed in part with the Raiders because he didn't have a franchise QB to lean on to, and even if his position is now more secure - I don't think he wants to repeat past failures.

I was just watching Longhorn Baseball Network and they flashed A headline across the bottom of the screen: “Panthers plan to aggressively pursue Deshaun Watson”. Make of that what you will.

Desean has made it crystal clear that he wants to play for a contender, a team with a good O line a good defense and Head coach.

Matt Rhule has been terrible (5-11, 5-12) since hired as HC & their o line ranked 31st last season .

I'll be inclined to believe he'll pass on the Kittens.

My guess is that he will land in Pittsburgh with weapons & a proven organization and HC.

Also you got a Reserve, Future's Contract Kirk Merrit who's also had problems behaving with the ladies...

And then there's Jameis, who many are willing to forget that an entire university system and alumni destroyed a girl to protect their Heisman winner...

Plus Jameis has had Ronald Darby alibi for him not once, but in two alleged sexual assault cases...

Don't expect these Saints to live like Saints, but criminal sexual transgressions seem to be swept under the rug by the Saints FO - that's disturbing...

I agree completely. It kind of bothers me honestly.

The days of guys like Brees and Colston are long gone. Sad.

I'll say this, Watson has a ton of baggage. And its baggage in the last few years.

I'd really rather just try to find a good QB in the draft and go for him. But that's just me.

Agreed, but how easy is it to find a true franchise QB through the draft, especially when you are not picking with the first couple of picks of a draft?!

Trading for Watson could be that shortcut for this Saints' team to really compete for the Lombardi instead of years of mediocrity while trying to find the QB to take them to the promised land.

Pretty much last chances for guys like Jordan, Davis and Ingram.

Kamara and his crew beat up that guy recently too.

Like it or not, there are not many role models left in the NFL. Its no longer viewed as privilege to be in the NFL, because as long as you can contribute to a Super Bowl, a lot of the personal stuff gets forgotten by many.

As you said, disturbing.

Re: Deshaun Watson to Saints?

Drafting a QB in the first rd is essentially playing the lotto.

HUGE gamble.

Can't win if you don't play. But your point is well-founded.
