None of us know. You should probably ask Daltons agent.

They'll prolly all say... the market was RED HOT, and we were in danger of losing him.

The fairer question to ask is: Is three weeks early enough to justify the potential of a potential loss of a 3rd rounder for a backup QB, one that will hopefully not play. And does that also mean they have less confidence in Ian Book?

This move may be more controversial than we realize. We'll just have to see it unfold.

I don't see the logic in not making a move based on a pick that you "might" get. I am not saying a compensatory 3rd rounder is not worth anything, I'm just saying you shouldn't behave as if it is guaranteed.

I'm guessing they wanted to get him in before offseason activities began so he can learn the system and get some familiarity within the organization. I'm not mad it. Dalton should be a really solid back up for 2 or 3 years.

This makes perfect sense. Getting your primary backup in place in time for off-season activities is worth more than the possibility of maybe getting a pick after the tail-end of the third round (actually basically a 4th rounder) IF Terron Armstead can stay healthy for the Dolphins (which is absolutely not a given).

Rez, that's one of the criticisms of the signing, Dalton was only signed to a one year deal and it may cost them a R3 compensatory pick...

It will largely depend on the totality of other signings; but if the Saints lost a Top 100 pick in the draft because of this signing - then the heat will be brought to bear...

And if anyone questions the importance of a Round 3 compensatory pick, bear in mind, we just traded one of those picks in the trade with the Eagles, to gain a R1 pick...

Also Trey Hendrickson was drafted with an acquired compensatory R3 pick (Brandin Cooks Trade), so despite some fools, there's definite value with those picks...

If this leads to someone wanting Loomis to be fired - I really don't know what to say to that person, except "you be you "

Do. You do you. I think that’s the in fashion, over used phrase the prissy millennials use.

Some times you just have shake your head and smile at these underemployed GM’s that work this board … of I’m just a fan circa 1967 😎✌️

When you rewind your Saints history tape, it is a good practice to rewind all the way, or at least to the point that tells you that you shouldn't make the statement you are about to make.

With out that 'just an accountant" you don't have Sean Payton or Drew Brees. If 'the accountant' chooses differently you have Jets defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson, or Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon, former or Green Bay head coach Mike Sherman or former St. Louis Rams coach Mike Martz.

If 'the accountant' is responsible for Andy Dalton then he is also responsible for Brees, Sproles, Sharper (wouldn't have been in a SB without his 9 interceptions and only 2 players in the NFL have beaten that number in the last 12 years.)Shall i keep going?

If you are going to say 'the accountant' is not responsible for those above free agents then you hang Andy Dalton on Dennis Allen.

Either way at some point your passion needs a dose of logic.:bng:
