They did call it... and it looked like it. Maybe the rule includes the top back part of the jersey. But technically a horse collar is when they grab higher at the neck opening of the jersey. I am glad they called it. Doesn't stop the QB from sensing this kind of threat and reacting in a non-injurious manner. If he stops resisting the tackle and goes/falls in the opposite direction, maybe he doesn't injure himself. | |

The rule was changed in 2016, I believe, to include the back of the jersey anywhere from the nameplate and up. Even if the player somehow senses a player behind them, they cannot know that player is going to make an illegal tackle that stops the upper body while allowing the legs to advance past the point of balance. Are you suggesting that anytime a player senses an opponent behind them that they immediately give up and go into a slide or such? ![]()
