There is something special brewing in New Orleans right now and the fans can feel it too. This may have been the best offseason that I can remember since I became a Saints fan in '77. The front office identified our needs and wants then addressed them by bringing in new faces for competition throughout the roster. I feel much more comfortable about our depth than last year and that was a critical factor that led to a 7-10 season.

We'll see if the coaching can hold up this time around.

I remember that year! I was playing on the tire swing in my backyard when I heard the news that Rugby stepped on the Saints train. I new we were destined for greatness right then! 😀

Damn. I was 20 years into my Saints journey and my second year at NC State working with my roommate on the student newspaper covering sports and entertainment in '77. The Sports editor was always ragging me about my Saints but I always said I will always believe in them and I have.

The only team sport I ever played was rugby and I didn't know the player positions in football until I was in college when my buddy called me out at the Super bowl for not knowing if a guard was on offense. Then he taught me the positions and rules the rest of the game. I'm glad I'm on the bng where there is a daily education.

Edit: My father taught me how to ride and rope not throw and catch.

I tried a bit of roping living in Montana. My buddy’s dad told me I should be a heeler because I’d throw sidearm.

I haven't thought about a heeler since I left the ranch as a young man. Thanks for the memories. Have you ever been to a rodeo? For us growing up it was a regular past time. The side arm is a quick release. I would think that it's similar mechanics whether you're roping or throwing a football.

Yeah I made it to a handful of rodeos while living in Montana (Man I love those cowgirls!). I even made it to a Calgary Stampede once. I couldn’t ride for crap though.

I was born and raised in South Dakota until age nine when we were transferred to Louisiana in 1967. Half of my mom's family were, and still are, big time into rodeo. Google the Duxbury family in South Dakota. They're all either in state politics and/or cattle ranching to this day. My grandpa Lloyd wore a western hat and boots every day of his life. Believe it or not, my son gave me a new lasso for Christmas. He thought it was a gag gift, but I love it. Still working on trying to break it in. Any input, guys? Hard to stretch it without a horse.

I know it’s a different meaning but it’s still a great line.
