It's just Underhill trying to generate clicks for his paid content... so he can pay Triplett his salary. Maybe Underhill is lurking BnG for new stories?

Dude gives no reason or valid argument... just says it's crap. WTF.

Brees cap busting compensation definitely handcuffed the Saints for many years. Cap is way bigger now which makes it easier. However, the push to pay average QB absurd $ is just that, absurd and crazy, even if one tries to say "it is what it is" !

I may be wrong, but I think a shift has already begun to change/alter the percentage make up of teams on how compensation is handled for all position groups.

Actually, all three are in cap related hell by some person's definition, Rugs.

Tampa Bay 2020-21 Champs with Brady - currently most over the cap
Rams 2021-22 Champs with Stafford - purged most of their talent
Chiefs 2022-23 Champs with Mahomes - QB counts $49.763 million against the 2023 cap - $98.83 million dead cap number - Only $526K in 2023 cap space curently

More and more teams are shifting to the Saints model of contract construction. Mahomes ten year deal is structured with huge roster bonuses every year which are designed to be converted to signing bonuses and prorated annually. In other words, kicking that can down the road as some that do not understand the principle commonly call it.

Kai Harley and .Mickey Loomis are truly innovators. It's too bad that we've had to lose good players because we simply could not afford to keep them and still paid the contract while they were playing on another team. I know that the cap keeps going up and that we are playing with future money now but eventually the bill will come due. I just wonder what we will have to show for it?

Who are all of those good players we lost because we couldn't pay them and still paid the contract while they were on other teams? Teams release or do not resign players all the time hoping to replace them for less costly options. That's the nature of the entire NFL, not just the Saints.

Rugs, the Saints have been using this accounting method for almost two decades. If the bill was going to show up wouldn't you think it already would have done so well before now?

Pretty much the expected range. Quickly approaching the average going rate for a vet.
