Read an interesting take on Hooker:

Negatives:

Over-aged; will be 25 years old by draft day. Torn ACL will likely influence draft stock. Scheme isn’t the most complex or pro-style; completion percentage is somewhat padded by a lot of quick, predetermined throws (swings, screens), as well as slants and crosses over the middle of the field. Didn’t take snaps from under center during the games reviewed. Had a lot of time to operate behind clean pockets with wide receivers projected to go high on draft day. Too many uncatchable balls on routine throws like screens and shorter throws over the middle of the field. Takes some risks on shots down the sidelines; can stare down targets, and placement is iffy, typically letting passes sail but sometimes underthrowing receivers. Would like to see him protect his body a little bit more consistently when running.

Projection: Round 3

If he falls that far (Day 2/3), I'd definitely take a flyer.

If you look at the drafts over the last 5-6 years it is very rare for good QBs to fall outside the first round. This is because scouting is way better and you are seeing more elements from the college game in the NFL so it’s easier to project QBs. Of course there are busts in the first round but if you want a good QB you pretty much need to take one in the 1st round.

Jalen Hurts is the only QB to come into the league in this time frame that I would say is good (jury is still out on Purdy). So with this information I don’t think the Saints should take a QB in the draft. Build your roster with BPA and next year when we have a 1st round pick that presumably will be mid round or better then go for a young QB.

I don’t think the long term solution to QB is going to happen this offseason. You can’t make dumb decisions to get a QB just because you need one, that isn’t going to work out. We can’t keep restructuring contracts because it’s hurting our future and we aren’t winning now so guys like Jimmy G and Carr are out in my book. I’d bring in a veteran on a 1 year deal (maybe Dalton again) and get the cap in a better spot and strengthen other positions in the draft.

I can agree with much of that. I'd still be very open to taking a flyer, however, on a QB later in the draft. While chances are they wouldn't develop into a starter it's still worth a shot. They could end up being a decent backup. If nothing else you need a third QB on your roster, if for nothing else, practices. A late rounder is a cheap option for that purpose, at worst.

Most mocks don't have him falling into the 3rd.

Well he's days off crunches, not running yet and won't be ready for his late March pro day. At this point, no one really knows.

2nd to early 3rd round is my guess.

Hooker draft analysis.

Absolutely.

He's not getting drafted in Rd 1 while rehabbing a torn ACL. Especially at the QB position.

I hope they just continue to inject new talent into the roster via the draft while potentially waiting a year for the next franchise QB.

Use the 1st round pick on the best interior lineman on either side of the ball or on a RB/DB.

I wouldn't mind going with Winston and Hill under center for next season.

Just don't make any splash signings and try to reduce bad contracts in any way possible.

Hope he's there in the later rounds other than a 2nd.

The kid from Coastal Carolina and the one from Stanford are intriguing prospects.

Yikes. So in other words, everything you want in an NFL quarterback he does poorly 😂
