What should the Saints’ plan be to upgrade at QB?

As Nick says ... People can argue about coaches and coordinators, assign blame here or there and debate what should or shouldn’t happen next, but nothing is going to matter this offseason unless the Saints find a solution at quarterback. What is the answer for the most important position on the roster? |

I think we can all agree that Andy Dalton isn't an answer. Or at least I hope we can.
Do we give Winston another shot coming in healthy? Do we look do trade for someone like Carr? Lamar? Do we take our new found draft picks and trade up and spend the wad on a rookie and throw him out there day one? |

Did the scouts "miss" on their reporting of Purdy or is it Shanahan's/Niners system?
I like what I've seen from Brock, but have you noticed how the Niners can get more out of 2nd tier QBs over the years? IMO Kyle Shanahan is arguably the top 1, or 2 signal caller in the game. |

I hear ya'
But there's the thing. It does not mean picking a QB that is being rated a round 1 or 2 pick. It is the organisation having the smarts to recognise what the QB proved what he can already do e.g. good eyes, accurate arm, composure in the face of pressure, durability. All aspects that are not that difficult to determine from the the budding NFL QB's multi-years at college. And then determine their dedication to improvement; e.g. attandance at the Manning Passing Academy. When th eplayer comes to the Saints, protect the guy with a decent offensive line. Alas, too much is put on the pure athleticism. Yeah, it is excicitng to see athletes being atgheltic, but for a QB let's ensure he is accurate. |

Re: What should the Saints’ plan be to upgrade at QB?
Stand our ground in the draft or only trade up a little not some disaster trey lance or rg3 type trade. Draft a qb to develoo and hope to find the next jackson, hurts, or purdy. Start Dalton or Watson or someone else cheap day 1. Give the young qb time to develop. We are not a carr away from a ring and giving jackson a megadeal would be bad long term, it would cost too many picks and too much guaranteed money and running qbs dont age well. Plus we dont have the cap for jackson without hanstringing our ability to keep out younger talent for years to come.
