He never got the big starting QB contract after year 5. And unless he's able to pull a Geno Smith somewhere down the line, he never will.

Winston has $67 million paid out over 8 years. Seems like a lot. But for example with the new deal that Daniel Jones in New York just signed, he's caught up to the cash value of Winston's career going into year 5.

Also it's not just about the money, though that's a big part. Starting QBs want to start. JW2 just doesn't have the mindset of a Chase Daniel, who has made a ton of money as a backup QB in this league.

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

He's got until Wednesday to decide iirc. I want him back because he's a team player, but at the same time I'm not sure that he can develop any further without Sean Payton's strong hand leading his decision making process. We may have seen everything hye is capable of. I hope not, but my initial concerns that he is severely limited are back again.

Disagree. The Saints and many of it's fans have been pretty supportive of Winston despite his history on and off the field.
The Saints gave him a pretty fair contract last year to see if he could prove that he was ready to lead this team. With all the turnovers in leadership and injuries he couldn't "earn" his way into a long term deal. That sucks for him.

Current Contract. Jameis Winston signed a 2 year, $28,000,000 contract with the New Orleans Saints, including a $14,000,000 signing bonus
For me, I couldn't stand the guy before he signed with the Saints. His privileged college behavior and his stupiditiy just when he played the Saints turned me off. Like a lot of Saints fans, I like the idea of redemption (we may be saints but we are all indeed sinners) and wanted to see him put his past behind him and do really well here.

Honestly, that's simply my perception. I live in Alaska afterall. You might see more vitriolic behavior where you live.

I live in the greater New Orleans area. He was trashed by fans on the daily.

I wouldn't mind Winston as a backup but I find it highly unlikely that he would accept that. I believe he still feels he can be a starter in the league. If he choses to sign somwhere else where he will get a shot at atleast compete for the spot I'll wish him the best. I havn't seen him do anything but the right things while with the Saints.

Winston's injury luck is unfortunate.

What gave me hope was the way the team seemed to support him. I felt like hey, if the team loves him, he must be the guy.

Personally, I think he's goofy and off-putting. He looks uncomfortable in the pocket and speaks like someone who's trying to convince you of something that isn't true.

But hey, all that aside, I pulled for him to win and even defended him when others criticized his decisions and I still think he'd be an excellent back up or stop gap in the event Carr is injured. More so than Dalton.

Bobby Scott made a good living holding a clip board for many years.

Yeah, he's goofy alright. He's kind of likeable though, but as you pointed out he seems to be trying too hard. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but people who try too hard may be trying to fix a flaw that they recognize.

He grew on me though after my initial negative response watching him eat the W. If Payton was still coaching him with the blinders on like his first year with us I'd have a lot more faith in Winston

And if the organization have treated him as poorly as you speculate, Jameis has the opportunity to say no I don't want to work with you.

I expect him to, but I also think he enjoys being close to home.
