Re: Derek Carr is going to shock the world
He will be good but Brees was elite, once in a lifetime Qb. If Carr has a good team around him we can find success but he’s not the kind of QB that can elevate our team if we have the worst defense in history. Brees was on another level and every time he touched the ball there was always a probability we could score. Brees didn’t need elite talent around him, just a good offensive line. Doubt we get another producer like Brees in our lifetime

They lost by seven. Our defense is far superior than anything Carr had during his entire career with the Raiders. He's definitely not a Brees v2.0, but he gives us a far better shot than any other option we may have for years to come. |

Re: Derek Carr is going to shock the world
When I said he was Brees 2.0, I didn't mean he was going to be Brees 2.0. I meant the acquisition was like Brees 2.0. I still think he's going to surprise people and could end up being one of the top QBs in the league. I should have been clear about what I meant. I mean even as QBs their style is very different.

He's got a good chance in New Orleans now and Loomis is stock piling weapons to make him successful. Let's see what he does with a good defense to help him out.

Injuries or not, Pete Carmichael needs to get it together. He didn't utilize Shaheed, Taysom, or Kamara in critical situations last season. Calling runs on 1st & 2nd down was damn near predictable. Fast forward to now, you have better offensive weapons/RBs (including the most important piece - QB), fresh draft picks at positions of need, Winston who can assist DCarr in the terminology & valuable input by Gruden, etc. With this roster, relatively healthy or not & they don't make the playoffs ... oh boy . No excuses. |

Re: Derek Carr is going to shock the world
We're the underdog this year. We're being picked to win the division by default. Everybody thinks we'll be garbage. That's when we're at our best: flying under the radar.

Re: Derek Carr is going to shock the world
I've brought this up before, but how many times did Dalton check out of a pass call into a run? Dalton became so conservative as the year progressed. The Saints have generally had a pass/run option on early downs based upon the QB's read of the defense. Defenses knew they didn't have much to fear from the Saints decimated offensive line last season in the run game. Even when a pass play was run Dalton would check down instead of taking the more aggressive shot downfield. Brees was always more likely to flip from a run primary to a pass option solely on his degree of self-confidence. Hopefully we see more of this out of Carr.
