We could use some quickness along that line to get after elusive/mobile QB's. They have been our biggest problem on defense. That and stopping the run is damn near impossible.

Dennis Allen would change his position, just like he did Zach Baun.

He'd be wasted talent whilst the wonder twins are in charge of this team.

One way or another both Allen and Carmichael are going to be gone sooner than later. As with everything else, I am optimistic about that. I'm just looking forward to positive moves in the future after we finish this playoff push.

Re: The 2023 JeanPierre Saints Roster Depth Chart Thread

I was at training camp when Andrus Peat showed up looking like the Pillsbury dough boy and I wasn't impressed with him. When I saw him I told my brother that he looked really soft. His physical shape isn't sculptured like an athlete and that is what I ant from my O linemen. I've said every since then that he is built like the Pillsbury dough boy. But, now that I think about it, he also reminds me of the giant marshmallow in Ghostbusters. They are both likeable characters though.

We signed Peat in the first round to be the left tackle. He wasn't very good and we tried him on the right side where he failed miserably. So, then we moved him to LG and he's had his moments. Sometimes, he's blocking great, and then other times he's missing assignments or getting knocked to on his ass on a regular basis. Did I mention his injury history?

We restructured his contract to cut him next year and go figure, he stepped up his game. He moved back to left tackle where he has played adequately in the past and has played well enough to get paid this offseason to play left tackle.

We re-signed Peat to a second contract because there was a shortage of O line players available.....and the cycle continues. Do we re-sign Peat?

Probably deserves it's on thread but here are the areas of need/concern for 2024:

OL, DL, LB, CB & DE, RB & TE.

Better start hitting on some of these draft picks going forward.

Re: The 2023 JeanPierre Saints Roster Depth Chart Thread

Marcus Maye graded out to be one of the worst safeties in the league. We might need some attention there too. Watching Miller on the field yesterday, he looks like he has the potential to be an explosive type back. Unfortunately, I don't know if we'll get the opportunity to see if he could be.

Both Hendrickson and Elliss elevated their game when they left. So dpressing to see as they were more than affordable to keep.

Might be best to trade down (but we never do) and pick up some more youth and speed.

Agreed :bng:.

IMO the Saints need a lot.

I would look to move some of these vets. The franchise have been in "all in mode" for years now & we've made very little traction.
It's hard to imagine that YOUNGER players would be much worse.

Even with the likes of MT, AK, MT, Mathieu, DD we are still non contenders, missing out on post season.

Gotta start hitting home runs on these draft picks. Time to get younger & faster.

I wouldn't even rule out Marshon Lattimore being dealt (traded) elsewhere in 2024.

Underhill touched on this subject last week too.

Did a mock draft last night for the heck of it.

Traded back to 18, picked up 49.

18 - JJ McCarthy QB Michigan
45 - Donovan Jackson OG OSU
49 - T'Vondre Sweat DT Texas

His improvement will really depend on what happens in the off season ... OL (pass protection), TE and a competent OC.

I'm really curious to how we're going to approach our first pick. If one of the top quarterbacks fall(not Williams obviously), do we really pass up on a Maye, Daniels, or Penix? OThe only other two positions I can really see us going are OT or pass rusher.

I think we pick 14th.

Me too and I can see us totally ignoring all of those QBs. Mickey Loomis and co tend to believe Carr is the answer .

OT is definitely a realistic option. I like Oregon St kid as well as Latham from Bama. There is a good chance one will be there at pick #14.

I'd like to add another sideline to sideline assasin (linebacker) to the mix.

Just gotta stop drafting guys (Baun, Taylor) and immediately moving them to another position.

papz 01-08-2024 12:30 PM

Re: The 2023 JeanPierre Saints Roster Depth Chart Thread

Good point regarding Baun. He was a really disruptive player in college and always in the backfield. It seems like we just developed him incorrectly and tried to make him into something he's not. Our sideline to sideline linebacker is starting in Atlanta. He ranked 22/83 in '23.

Kaden Elliss signed a 3 year, $21,500,000 contract with the Atlanta Falcons, including a $5,250,000 signing bonus, $10,160,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $7,166,667.

Sigh. Develop a player, let him go, and watch them excel elsewhere.

Sucks that this coaching staff had a red zone weapon and didn't (healthy inactive for weeks) utilize his skillset until it was too late.

It would completely suck if Latt is no longer a Saint in 2024.

5 New Orleans Saints players who won't be back in 2024

The entire coaching staff and front office needs to be on a plane to the Bermuda Triangle. Leave the team intact, grab Joe Flacco “of the street”, and we’d have a better upcoming season than our lat two years, despite the tougher schedule.

OT is our biggest must have this offseason. No more reaches from small schools that we can develop.

For some reason the staff loves moving players to new positions...... or rather playing them out of position.

I hope that Jimmy Graham took that picture from the pilots seat. That means that he's able to pilot planes again! If he can't play football....Then Fly Baby! Fly!

We've had a lot worse results from third round picks than what we got from him. It's truly criminal the way that Carmichael under utilized him this season because he always came through when he was actually on the field.

FYI, LB Ryan Connelly, OL Colby Gosset, and WR Shaq Davis as practice players the Saints did not re-sign that are free to move on.

I was kinda hoping to what a healthy Shaq could do in 2024.

I was also hoping Shaq would catch on like AT Perry eventually did. Oh well, let's keeping looking for the next UDFA gem. Our scouts may not be able to find talent for the O line but they're pretty dang good at finding wide receivers.

Apparently Shaq wasn't all that some had hoped. Then again, none of us out here know **** about talent. :D

Priority #1 in my eyes is to get this Oline together.

Then pass rusher. Cam is running on fumes, you can't count on Payton Turner, Foskey is essentially a rookie and Carl Granderson could use legit help.

Either Free Agency and/or the draft. Adding a TE would be nice as well.

Watching teams playing in the post season so far .. Saints are not even close to competing with any of those teams in late January.

It's time to get younger in New Orleans.

Re: The 2023 JeanPierre Saints Roster Depth Chart Thread

Safety - I like the Jordan H pick but Maye and Mathieu .. old.
Time to bring in another one.

LB - Demario, Pete ... draft another backer. Sideline to sideline assasin. A bonafide dawg. (See Niners Greenlaw/Warner, see Ravens Queen & Smith).

Anyone notice the core players (All Pro/Pro Bowl) on the Detroit Lions are on rookie contracts?

It's time to replentish the shelves.
