What Went Right & What Went Wrong

Right- Derek Carr was money. #53 looked good & flashed everywhere. Bad play calling by KC when they were winning and gave us the game. Haener throwing a laser first down.

Wrong- not much after the first stringers. Twenty four unanswered points. The backups missed a lot of tackles today and we gave up too many yards after first contact. Busted coverage giving up big plays. Haener threw his first interception.

Re: What Went Right & What Went Wrong

The usual suspects looked sharp ...

DCarr, AK, JuwanJ & the rookie A.T. Perry (6/6 targets).

Not sure what Jeff Duncan was talking about but Payton Turner looked solid & same could be said for Granderson.

Still kinda concerned about the depth at RB & the O line.

Looking forward to those joint practices with the Chargers in a week or so.

I think Breesse is gonna be a major disrupter in a year or two. Isaiah Foskey was MIA today. Looks slow.

But hey, it's only pre season game #1.

The defending champs gave up 17 unanswered points to begin the game with their 1st and 2nd string. Does that mean they are in trouble? Just asking for a friend.

Did AT Perry win WR4 job over TreQ?

WR5 and/or WR6 are the bubble. He may have slipped in there for sure.

Was a little disappointed about how Isiah Foskey looked.

On his college tape, he jumped off the screen with his get off and ability to get to the QB.

I've just gone back and watched the snaps he was in for and he was really lackluster.

Not setting the edge on outside runs, played VERY slow, zero pass rush moves besides trying to get around the outside.

Hoping he can pick it up, but other guys really showed more than he did.

Not getting here early has its consequences. He's probably banking on his draft status. Still he is a ND grad I think. So he should be smart enough to pick things up quickly. I hope we don't have to utter the phrase "What The Foskey"!

Pretty much this. On the good, Perry looks like he has potential. Seeing Thomas catch a pass was encouraging (I was nervous when I saw him slide for the catch). Didn’t notice big injuries except Miller. Liked Merriweather against their 3s. I’m still iffy on Haener…started shaky but rallied.

Bad… general run blocking; not a lot of holes. Not impressed with Blake G as he shanked one. Quite a few penalties in general.

Edit…I forgot about 2 takeaways! Didn’t get enough of those last year !

His rallying is his calling card at Fresno St. So he basically showed us with the scrubs that he can still do what he did in college but in the pros. Need a bigger sample size nonetheless.

And yes on the takeaways. :bng:

Gotta give him credit for his TD drive. Wonder what happened on the missed 2 point conversion try. Looked like a few things went wrong.

Winston was money. I’m sure there’s a few “we need to make Winston Qb1” threads as if there’s a controversy. FB will be full of the same calling anyone who disagrees racist.

We seriously lack depth at pretty much every position

Trevor P aka Junk Yard Dawg looked solid too.

I like his controlled “nastiness” (if that makes any sense) 🧐.

Proceed with caution. Marquez Callaway had a monster preseason 2 seasons ago. Hasn’t done squat since.

Penning had a great pancake block on the first drive of the game. Guy is a road grader… just hope he’s developing in pass pro because that’s where he struggles. Glad to see the staff kept him in after they pulled the rest of the 1s to get him some more snaps.

Caution at this stage of the year is always a sound choice, but I will say, as a guy who watched every single one of AT’s college games, he’s got what it takes to be not just on the roster, but a significant contributor. He’s got to keep stacking days, but his athletic ability belongs in this league. Should be fun to watch how he progresses.

Starting to hate this “stacking days” phenomenon.
It’s like when people were using the term “sexy” when referring to players and their ability.

Probably just communication. First game for that C/QB combo and stuff will happen.

I think did allright for being his first game in an NFL environment. I wasn't expecting anything more from him than he showed but I do believe there is something to build on.

Starters and main contributors all looked fairly solid. Depth wise, the Saints may be in for a real struggle, only time will tell. I think a priority has to be looking for upgrades at o-line reserves, I know at this point that is a difficult to almost impossible task. As for running back we can only hope Kendre Miller isn't out too long, something tells me Mark Ingram being retired may wind up a temporary thing... GHEESH...

It is a self help or motivational mantra. It simply means stacking one good day on top of another.

This right here. Offensive line help is in short supply across the whole league. If they were so readily available nobody would have any depth issues on the line.

That's a pretty awesome Booger McFarland response... LOL

On a serious note, I am sure the Saints are keeping an eye on the waiver wire, and who knows, maybe Sean Payton will give the Saints a reserve o-lineman for a kicker, word on the street is he needs one bad.

FWIW, the Saints are working out Darrel Williams (RB) today.

Source - Jordan Schultz

Former Chief and last played for the Cards in 2022.

Merriweather will do just fine for us as RB4.
Signing another back is just the cherry on top of the group, unless he's a replacement for Merriweather. It'll be a few more $, though.

For a #3 or 4 option, that's a decent player to bring in for a visit.

Tough runner & a decent pass catcher.

A question to my fellow Saints fans!

Living in the UK i have to subscribe to NFL GamePass on NFL.com to watch the Saints games!

DAZN have taken over GamePass this season! The viewing experience was fine but not the game commentary! The only option for the game commentary was by the Chiefs commentary team even though it was a HOME game for the Saints! I didn't need to hear them drooling over their team all the time! Why was there not Saints commentary available or even an independent commentary team without bias towards the Chiefs?

Basic short answer is the league wants to promote certain teams above others. Right now Kansas City is the leagues darling.

I'm the same, I was happy to see that DAZN had a bit of a better experience than Gamepass did. GP would always crash or say "content not available" for days on end.

But yeah, tuning in and watching Derek Carr throw a TD, just for Trent Green to say "how fast the LB was" that just got beat was mind-numbing.
