Roby? Now THAT was the "surprise" cut of the 2023 season.
Personally, I would have kept him around. You'll need that experience .. specificially down the stretch and in to the post seaosn. |

With some veterans, especially ones with an injury history, i wonder if the calculation could be to release them and then add back to avoid guaranteeing full years salary. This could also pair with some surprise moves to stash players on IR to make room.

From the link above ... But there’s a catch. Because Smith was been released, not waived, he won’t hit the waiver wire like many other players being let go at the roster cuts deadline. He’s free to choose his next team — or return to New Orleans. The Saints could have a handshake agreement in place to release him on Tuesday so they can place an injured player like Tre’Quan Smith, Landon Young, or Ryan Connelly on injured reserve on Wednesday, at which point they could re-sign Smith. ------------------------------------------ FYI Players placed on IR prior to the cutdown cannot return at all. Players placed on IR after the cutdown are eligible to return during the season. But they must be on the 53 man roster at 4:00 today. |
