Re: DENNIS ALLEN…
Just wait until she starts getting the cold shoulder from all the other guests who aren't running charities at all her galas and swares. She is about to go from being treated like the first lady of New Orleans to typhoid mary. Then she will look for answers of who ruined her reputation and give Loomis a gold watch instead of the game ball.

Re: DENNIS ALLEN…
We do not have a choice about restructuring to older players. We are $87-89 million over the projected 2024 salary cap depending on whether you go by Spotrac or Overthecap. We cannot cut players to save on the salary cap, they have already been restructured so many times that their dead cap is higher than their salary and it costs us money for the first year to move on, like the early termination fee of that $100 per line cell phone plan that came with the shiny new iPhone 12. We have to restructure most of our older players to avoid breaking the salary cap and facing unprecedented penalties and loss of draft picks for being the first team in NFL history to fail to get under the salary cap for an entire league year. The only choice we have is whether we only restructure as many players as we have to, in order to allow the cap deficit to get a little less severe the following year and begin a rebuild, or whether we restructure everyone under the premise that if we added Davante Adams or whatever we could win it all with an even older roster. What we need to do is only restructure the 2/3rds of veterans we are forced to, and avoid trading any future draft picks, which could be #1 overall in 2025.

Its not going to happen as its absolute nuclear blow it up and Loomis would essentially be saying he has made mistakes |

There is no post June 1 designation for trades, only 2 such designations allowed for cuts, and even when that designation is applied to 2 cuts, the money it saves does not come off the cap until June 1. If the Saints exceeded the salary cap from 3/15-5/31 they would face unprecedented penalties, likely the loss of the entire draft and likely future drafts, as no team has ever willfully exceeded the salary cap, and this would involve willfully exceeding it by $80 million for 2.5 months. Also the team would have to find trade partners wanting to acquire all these players in transactions that could not be finalized until June 1 after the draft and being willing to pay their 2024 base salaries, many of which are not neccessarily bargains on older players.![]()
Per wikipedia "The NFL's cap is a hard cap that the teams have to stay under at all times, and the salary floor is also a hard floor. Penalties for violating or circumventing the cap regulations include fines of up to $5 million for each violation, cancellation of contracts and/or loss of draft picks." Reading further into this, the loss of draft picks is not even the worst thing that could happen to the Saints if the salary cap was willfully exceeded. The NFL could force the Saints to 'cancel contracts' to get under the cap. This does not mean like canceling Derek Carr's horrible contract with guaranteed salary that would actually increase our cap number, it would likely mean cutting the contracts that are not guaranteed and that don't come with dead cap that would exceed the savings. Sounds great we would want to cut those anyway right? Well no. You see the main contracts for us that fit in the category where the base salary exceeds the dead cap are recent day 2 draft picks who did not get big bonuses or base salaries and don't yet have a lot of prorated money that would create dead cap if they were cut to save on their base salaries. Cutting Paulson Adebo saves us $1.3 million. Cutting Pete Werner saves us 1.4 milion. Cutting Alontae Taylor saves us $0.8 million. Cutting Erik McCoy saves us $0.9 millon. Cutting Jordan Howden saves us $0.7 million. If the Saints willfully exceeded the salary cap, the NFL could theoretically forfeit their 2024 and 2025 draft picks and cancel the above contracts while blocking them from signing any players until after June 1 and fining them $5 million an undetermined number of times depending on what they consider each seperate violation. |
