The biggest factor this offseason is whether we accept reality and begin a rebuild or keep drinking the Mickey Loomis Seagrams VO Koolaid and 'make it happen' to add a few 'missing pieces'. I would be happy to settle for keeping DA another year if we can do the responsible thing this offseason and use every ounce of cap flexibility we have to move on from aging, injury prone, or ineffective players while not trading any future draft picks.

If a coach like Reid, Sirianni, or Shannahan slept with the owners daughter and was suddenly cut loose and became our new coach it would not help us much. Perhaps we would make the playoffs but all it would get us is a more respectable margin of loss to the real contenders there. We are not built to win with a mediocre qb, no pass rush, a makeshift oline, and one of the oldest rosters in the NFL, no matter what we have at other positions.

If we got one of those coaches and immediately went 'all in' signing Adams or Higgins at WR, trading our 2025 1st round pick for Aaron Donald, and drafting Brock Bowers with our 1st, it would not matter, because we would still be an old team with questions at QB, OL, and pass rush. No coach will win it all with that. And the cost to do it would leverage us so much that Carr would be our QB in 2027 with all the money we push back.

What we need to do is cut some of the pricey aging vets and avoid restructuring some such as Lattimore and Ramczyk who are likely to hit a wall and become washed sometime in the next few years. We still have to restructure 2/3rds of them to get under the cap, but by only restructuring 2/3rds and using the rest of the money to move on from some, we open up the possibility for a youth movement in 2024-2025 that can still be competitive if we draft a lot of young players instead of trading up, and a clean slate in 2026 with tons of upside.

I hope DA is not the coach in 2024, but whether he is or isn't matters to me 10x less than cleaning the slate on our cap mess. We can't keep rinsing and repeating on the senior tour roster. Every year it continues the damage is deeper.
DAand the cap are the problems we have to address this offseason. No more restructures to older players who won't see the end of their contract. If they get to the end of their contract then we're paying over the hill players prime money.
