Re: The NFL is rigged
My neighbor is big on the NFL being rigged, however as I have explained to him you have to have a reason to rig it considering it is the most popular thing going in this country. Money is usually the biggest contributor to something being rigged, so with that in mind the NFL would be doing itself a favor by having the most popular team in the world in the Super Bowl more than once over the past 30 years. So if money is obviously not the driving force behind games being rigged what is the motivation for the NFL? If you cry conspiracy on everything it loses its luster.

Re: The NFL is rigged
My two cents - I think there is bias and flourishes of intrusion. But the NFL business has become so big and unwieldy I don't think it could be rigged full stop. For example, Madden which has had the exclusive video game license for nearly 20 years, is a bug-infested mess and has all the appeal of stale toilet water. They continue to be tone deaf on the officiating issues. And they're silly enough to think that having games overseas and doing these streaming shenanigans is the key to financial prosperity. When the real answer is simpler and has been staring them in the face (expanding to 36 teams).

Re: The NFL is rigged
The league has no bias. The league can be selective on which team gets favor and when but there is no bias. The league follows the money trail.
I know that zero bias sounds counter intuitive but after you consider what/whom the league is, you’ll understand. The league is not Roger Goodell, Rodger is the commissioner figure head. The league is 32 owners that make up a carefully crafted trade association. To say that the league has bias is to say that some owners prefer teams other than their own which is counter productive. The league is also not boxing and a fix is nearly impossible with the number of people that would have to be in on it. What the league does is meet each year and determine which outcome would bring the most financial benefit then nudge things throughout the season. Purely hypothetical business case. Organically the league would bring in 900BN in 2024. With successful nudging the league would bring in 1.2T in 2024. Either way it’s a win as they will meet their revenue goals but a successful nudging program would mean incentive bonuses to the owners. This is the only way you’d get owners to agree to their team being nudged out. This program is successful because most fans (fandom = pure bias) can’t fathom a pure revenue and compensation centric approach. I’ll wager 2 years salary that every Ref has an NDA in place. |
