I think that Penning could be on the roster bubble also. I think Turner and Saunders are more likely to make the roster than Penning. We are so weak on oline, and we invested so much in Penning, that he is being given an opportunity to start. But if he does not seize that opportunity and he gets abused in preseason, I could easily see the Saints either cutting him or trading him for another bust who may also need a change in scenery.

The whole 'Penning talked to Armstead' thing wreaks of a gimmick. So what if a player who has not performed had a brief conversation with a player who did. Brandon Browner talked to Richard Sherman a lot of times. I am sure that Trey Lance talked to Steve Young and Joe Montana. Davenport, Turner, and Foskey all probably talked to Cam Jordan. Maybe they talked to Rickey Jackson too. Presumably Penning had the chance to talk a lot already with Ram, Strief, Peat, McCoy, and others. And hey, Pete Carmichael talked with Jon Gruden before the 2023 season. As far as I am concerned Penning talking with Armstead is a probably meaningless anecdote and they would only be selling that line if there was not actual good news and real confidence to sell.

I think all our TE's should be on the roster bubble because someone needs to stand out. If Juwon Johnson does not stand out and does not embrace the new system as well as others, there is $3 million to be saved long term by moving on.

There could be a scenario where Lattimore does not make the team if he misses a lot of time in camp and the young players look good. Or he could be traded for virtually nothing, with the Saints paying part of his salary. I am not sure how his option bonus works and if its guaranteed if he is cut, since it is not paid until a week before the start of the season.

I think its very hard to make a lot of positives or negatives out of your players facing eachother. Because if its a tough battle it could be both are great or both suck, and if one dominates it could be one is great, or the other is just lousy. Its much more useful to see how your players perform relative to other teams. If a few players really stand out in camp, you can keep an eye on those players, and if they are rookies that can be good. But it could also just mean your rookies are schooling your vets because you have an old team coming off a 9-8 record that would have been 7-10 or worse against a decent schedule.

Idk why they won’t just bring in Bakhtiari and move Fuaga to his natural spot on the right.

For the same reason that I do not own a waterford crystal salad bowl. Because its expensive glass.

Sometimes signing a high injury risk veteran can be ok if you get a big enough discount, but you should not move a young healthy player to a new position to make room, because you will likely just be moving them back and throw off their development.

66 is Lemieux. True to his name, he looks like he is a legend on ice skates with the balance and agility only a penguin could possess. You can see why he could not start on the lowly ny giants the last few years.

Brian Baldinger emphasized that last season.

Slow and poor balance. Quick way to get your QB killed.

I agree, don’t think he’s starting material.

One on one passrush drills is something not to put too much stock in. The DL has a clear advantage in not having to care about anything, its just a matter of rushing. It looks kinda like I expect it to.

I'm thinking about trades and it's not even August!

My guess is our defense looks good because our O-line still sucks.
