Saints re-signing DE Young to three-year deal worth up to $57M

Young returns for 3 years

The New Orleans Saints are re-signing defensive end Chase Young to a three-year, $51 million deal worth up to $57 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.

Young, 25, played all 17 games last season, finishing with 5.5 sacks and 46 pressures, according to TruMedia. His pressures were tied for 11th in the NFL.

Young signed a one-year deal with the Saints worth up to $13 million during the 2024 free agency period. Young's contract had about $8 million tied up in per-game roster bonuses due to an offseason neck procedure he had last spring.

I wouldnt have extended him but if we had to extend someone this is better than extending Adebo, Johnson, Olave, or Penning. At least Young is young, has upside, is not currently hurt, and is good in some metrics. Now we need to cut Jordan with a post june 1 tag if he wont take a pay cut. We dont need 3 expensive DE’s.

Jordan would def be the odd man out. He is on the downside of his career and is not worth half of his price tag.

Does he drop another 10 pounds to help his speed coming off the edge as a 3-4 OLB?

We back from the dead bruh. Only valid argument is whether or not the money was well spent.

Time and health will tell the story.

Can't wait to see it. Similar to Leonard Floyd in the Rams defense. Although 240lbs, he could play the run as well as rush the qb.

Re: Saints 2025 Off-Season Roster Moves

It seemed like a lot to pay. He'll need to start looking like a great 3-4 OLB for this to be worth it. Think Terrell Suggs.

I guess we have to keep a fair number of Ohio State guys around!

That team was stacked, so drafting some of them wouldn't be a bad idea. And I am NOT an Ohio State fan.

So, Saunders (Binky) and Shepherd are both staying on the D-line.

Nick Underhill

3h
Carl Granderson, Cesar Ruiz and Khalen Saunders restructured their contracts

But there is no valid argument the money was well spent. We retained everyone from the worst interior dline against the run in the league. We spent $40 million to keep a QB who alienates half the fan base and hasnt won a playoff game in his 11 year career and is coming off 4 injuries in 2 years at age 34. If we wanted to alienate half our fan base, at least Kaepernick would have been cheaper and has won playoff games.

There was never any doubt we could get under the cap. It was just a matter of whether we kicked the can or burned down the house to do it. There was no way to get under the cap while unloading the wrong players AND adding the right players. That is the problem with Mickey’s system. Now we have Kellen Moore coaching Payton and Allens players.

Places him in the middle of the pack in terms of DE contracts.

At current production, that's a value.

If he improves incrementally (consider our new D Line coach) then we have an absolute steal.

Time will tell.

Don't judge these moves in a vacuum. Let free agency and draft play out before determining whether these incremental moves led to an improved overall team. :bng:

I hear you brother, seems absolutely insane but salaries are so inflated.

That amount per year isn’t that much for a DE nowadays.

The top DE contract right now is damn near 40M a year :o !!

Not sure about this one.

They really liked it on Moving the Chains earlier today. They said he was coming off a career year and felt he was better than some of the FA TE's already signed including Zach Ertz.

We have to realize that this isn't 1990 anymore. All positions are basically mandated to increase in pay due to the increasing cap. Besides, average salary means nothing these days. The only thing that matters is the guaranteed amount. Let's see what the actual details are before judging.

And let's not forget that Juwan was second on the team in receptions behind Kamara by a sizable margin over third.

Juwan is okay I guess ... but I was hoping we would keep the TE position a little clearer to potentially land Warren from Penn St. We still could draft Warren but it makes less sense now.

They may still draft Warren and use a good bit of two TE sets. It would definitely help in the passing game
