Actually wouldn't mind Fields.

I could see Moore bringing in a QB he’s familiar with …

Cooper Rush comes to mind.

I'd just as soon roll with Rattler and give him a chance to earn the start in 2026. If not, then we'll get a high draft pick next year. I also see us losing a lot of starters to old age/retirement which should get us some comp picks too.

If I am right about the contract numbers this is a great move. The best way to fix our cap is to stock our roster with as many players as this valuation as possible for a year or two.

I wonder if Moore may bring in Tanner McKee, third string QB of the Eagles. McKee went to Stanford and is very smart, played very well in relief for the Eagles this year, threw 4 TDs and 0 INTs, is only 24 years old, and is 6'6 with a strong arm. Moore and McKee are both Mormon, honestly look similar to each other, and McKee praised Moore's coaching when he left. McKee's development was somewhat curtailed by completing his Mormon mission to Brazil and by having to work on improving his unconventional throwing motion, much like some other QBs who were slower to develop, hiding their true potential. Ultimately McKee has the size, strength, and smart and has a connection to the coach that could make him worth a shot as Kellen Moore's Tony Romo.

What's one more WEAPON to give away?
Imagine one of the other teams in "NFC GOIN SOUTH DIVISION!! sweeping the Saints next season. Even worse, he reunites with Sean Payton!

One would think an "OFFENSIVE GENIUS" would want a one of a kind threat like Taysom Hill.

Re: Saints 2025 Off-Season Roster Moves

I hate to say it but if we would save anything over 5 million I would post June 1st cut Carr. I am sure this would set us back another year but 50 million is a lot of money in a QB that gets hurt often.

BakoSaint 02-15-2025 11:37 AM

Re: Saints 2025 Off-Season Roster Moves

Taysom Hill is 35yo coming off a torn ACL and set to make $10 million. He has a long injury history dating back to college that has only ebbed with very limited usage. Our offense around him is chaotic due to a poor oline and poor QB play. If we pay Taysom the $10 million to come back, that won’t mean we have Taysom for 17 games and if another team signs him it wont mean they have him for 17 games. We are not contenders and we owe it to Taysom to give him a chance to play for a contender this year, not for a weaker version of a division he has already won several times, but for an actual contender.

It would save $30-40 million to post-june-1 Carr depending on how his new contract effects offset language. If he signs elsewhere for at least 10-20mil per year, and i predict he gets 20-25, we save 40 mil. However, the long term cost of keeping him this year is 40 mil, not 50. 50 is a meaningless cap charge number that relates to debt from past bonuses and restructures and past of that is sunk cost.

Taysom is destined for Saints HOF. Incredible, all time favorite I'll remember forever.

But it's time to get younger and allocate those dollars to fixing holes in the roster.

Three free agent offensive linemen the Saints should target

Improving the offensive line in one offseason drastically improves this offense to the point we could compete right away.

I'd like to see them retain Marques Valdez Scantling as well. He came on strong at the end of the season. Imagine if he was out there paired with Shaheed and Olave (if they are back and in good health).

A possible free agent signing here? O-line depth?

Switching to the defense, some real possibilities

Teair Tart, DT, Chargers. Age: 28
Mike Hoecht, DT, Rams. Age: 27
Azeez Ojulari, OLB, Giants. Age: 25
Nick Bolton, ILB, Chiefs. Age: 25

Would Saints accept this Patriots trade offer for former first round pick Chris Olave?
I really like Olave but I'd think pretty hard about this offer.
Quote:

In exchange for Olave, the No. 9 pick, and the Saints' fourth-round choice at No. 129, New Orleans would receive the the No. 4 overall selection plus an early fifth rounder at No. 144.

MVS is a burner like Olave and Shaheed. We still need that X receiver like a Michael Thomas without the injuries and drama running across the middle.

Saints restructure Eric McCoy.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/foo...oy/ar-AA1AwAYx

First up, center Erik McCoy. The restructuring of McCoy’s contract creates $7 million in salary cap space. McCoy signed a 5-year, $60 million contract with the Saints in the fall of 2022.

Re: Saints 2025 Off-Season Roster Moves

IF the Saints keep Carr, I will advocate for signing Davante Adams to a 2 year deal. Yes, he's 32 but clearly still got enough to be a solid contributor as a mid to lower tier #1 WR.

Let's estimate a 2yr, $41MM with $35MM guaranteed.

I'd be in favor of kicking the tires on Lazard. He'll come cheaper and could be a possession complement to Shaheed and Olave.

They just restructured Carr so he is staying. We are now cap compliant

Maybe with this news the Seahawks would think about trading for Derek Carr. Klint Kubiak is the offensive coordinator there now, so there's that.

That is way more than he should get paid and anyone who wants that should have just been a Raiders fan 3 years ago and watched these players when they were less washed.

Does not that restructure make a trade now impossible?

His cap hit next year will be 69.7 million. Unless you’re name is manning or brees no one is trading for him

It's right in line with his production.
