Sounds like the speculation that has been being bandied about may not be very accurate. Surprise.

“Derek would prefer to rehab and play this season but doesn't have any answer right now.”

Translation: Raider Curbside Trash is gonna stink up another wasted “Rebuild” Season for Saints Fans. Again…

I don't blame him for wanting rehab first. If he can't go this season, have the surgery and be ready for next year. He will have plenty of Saints cash to take with him to his next team.

I came up with this graphic to show how insane Derek Carr's decision to attempt a super man dive was. I don't want to rub it in, his career is over, but young players like Shough should study this. It's fine to say that we were not technically eliminated from the playoffs and he was trying to do everything he could to win. But in the end, if your are 4-8 and have to little trust in your defense to hold a lead against a 2-10 Drew Lock led Giants that you can't risk 3rd and short, you are not a serious contender in any slim playoff berth scenario. And ultimately every player has to know their own capabilities and work within their skillset not this far outside it in this kind of situation.

The clip is here:
At first it looks like Kevin Austin Jr causes Carr to crash land, but watch it over in slow motion, I would say that Austin cannot possibly expect Carr to attempt that move, and Carr jumps straight at Austin, who does nothing unpredictable himself. If anything, Austin is just lucky Carr didn't end his career too.

Also it looks like Carr could have made the 1st down if air yards after crossing the plane out of bounds counter. But they don't. It makes me wonder if Carr knew the rule, or if doing so little rushing in his career he thought extending his arm out of bounds could get him the first. If he had switched the ball to his left arm and reached out with it, he might have gotten it.

I dont really know what to compare this decision to. Yes he was trying to win, but in the most impossible reckless way given his skillset. It would be like Stephen Curry trying to dunk on Wemby in a regular season game with lots of time on the shot clock and a small lead with 4 minutes remaining. It would be like Hailey Van Lith trying to dunk in any game. It would be like current Mike Trout trying to steal home with 1 out and a lead in the 8th inning and attempting a similar dive. If would be like running the tush push against the Eagles with Jake Haener in Week 18 playing for a #1 overall pick we traded to them.
