Re: Time to trade Olave?
To add to the debate on Olave's past concussions, it has come out that ammonia based smelling salts are broadly used in the NFL to 'boost alertness' and can make the symptoms of concussions. So all those 'mild grade 1' concussions Olave has had, and the times he has taken what looked to be a concussing hit, 'shook it off', and returned to the game. You have to wonder even more now about how many and how severe players like Olave's concussions have been and what the long term impact will be, because in addition to the subjective nature of concussion grading, and how severe even a grade 1 concussion can be with unconsciousness and memory loss, you also have widely used methods of masking the symptoms either in-game or to test out of the protocol.
The new NFL policy is that teams/staff will no longer be able to supply smelling salts, but players can still make the decisions on their own. |
